The great Transcontinental, Rail way companies have boen quick to recognize the Importance of the ses sion or the National Irrigation .con gress which will be held ' at Albu querque, N. M., September 29-October J, 1908. Conferences have already been had with a number ot these, no tably the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe, the- Denver & Rio Grande, the Rock Island and the El Paso & South western. W. J. Black, passenger traffic man ager of the Santa Fe system, writes to the board as follows: "Referring to our conference today in reference to the co-operation of the Santa Fe company In making the next National Irrigation congress at Albuquerque a marked success. Instructions have been given to Include editorial men tlon of the Irrigation congress In each edition of "The Earth" between now and October. We will likewise carry a display advertisement In the Earth. We also propose to Issue 10,000 or more copies of an illustrated folder or pamphlet describing the attractions of the congress and other subjects of In terest for distribution in localities In terested in irrigation, with the idea of increasing the attendance at Albu querque in October. We will further more aid the people of New Mexico in such ways as can be -devised in the Interim in making hte Albuquerque convention one long to be remem bered. . We shall of course, expect your assistance lit preparing data and copy for the folder and tor any fur ther suggestions which will be of mu tual advantage to all concerned, Tou may also be assured that we will at the proper time arrange for favorable excursion rates to Albu querque. Passenger rates throughout the eastern territory are in ' such chaotic condition at the present time that It' Is Impossible for me to defin itely determine at this writing what can be done from that particular sec tion. So far as 1 can see now there will be no complications from the ex tensive irrigated districts ot the west from which a large majority of the attendance will come. Tours truly, W. J. BLACK.
