pilot the vessels through Chilean wa
ters.
Secretary Taft Is slated fur several
speeches next week, most Important

banquet of the Tippecanoe club In
Cleveland on Wednesday night. On
Saturday night he will speak at the
annual banquet of the Ohio Society
of New York, when Governor Hughes
Is also expected to deliver an address.
Governor Hughes will also speak at
a meeting of the New York State
Charities association in Albany Mon
day, when a campaign will be com
menced to wipe out tuberculosis in
the empire state.
One of the most Important conven
tions of the coming week will be
that of the American Breeders' asso
ciation, of which Secretary James
Wilson of the department 'of agricul
ture Is president. The sewdons will
be held In Washington on Tuesday.

London, of the battle-flag which once

Chesapeake, before Its capture by the
British during the war of 1812.
The Chinese new year will be cel
ebrated by Celestials In every clime
next Saturday. The customary ob
servances will mark the festival In
the Chinese quarters of New Tork,
San Francisco and other large cities
of this country.
In sporting circles great Interest
will attach to the billiard and pool
championships to be decided next
week. The Sutton-Morningstar match
for the 18.2 balkllne billiard title will
be played in New York Monday, and
the Hueston-Keoirh contest for the
wurld s pool championship will begin
in St. Louis on the same date.
