constitute a good literary Is large
crowds and enthusiastic workers. Our
workers are good, but we want more.
io let every one come that can, and
help to build out literary up. Come
prepared to take part In tha pro

the tax commissioners are carried out.
This was one of the developments of
tax day" In the metropolis, and after
today the chorus girl will have to tell
her secret, pay taxes on her property
or flee from the wrath to come. The
tax commissioner declares that other
ladies pay taxes on' diamond tiaras and
devil wagons and such, and why not
the tootsy-wootsy chorus girl? The
tax collectors are evidently sternly
bent on their mission and are not to
be cajoled by winsome smiles or cun
ning displays of lingerie. The chorus
lady must tell or pay.

IGEO.. KRIEGERI
clety had the general program before
recess.. The program was as good as
usual. After recess the boxes and
cakes were disposed of. The boxes
were sold first. As It wus stated above
the crowd was rather small, there be
ing only 16 boxes. .The boys were
also few in number, but they bid quite
freely on the boxes. The boxes
brought $1.55. averaging $1.22.
Now comes the most exciting time
of the evening. The selling of the
cake to the ugliest lady In the house
started off rather slow; but finally
names were put before the house and
the ball started to rolling. The fol
lowinii ladles were the candidates:
Misses Grace Hulse, Ruby York and
Edith Woodruff. For almost an hour
the candidates and their friends were
Molictting votes from all over the
house. For some time It was rather
doubtful who was going to be the
ucky one, but finally Miss Woodruff
ucceedcd in winning the cake by the
receipt of 976 votes; Miss Hulse re
ceived 878 and MIhb York 189. The
otes being worth 1 cent each, the
cake brought $20.44. ,
After this exciting time the cake
was sold to the most handsome man.
On account of the hour being late ami
the crowd getting tired, this was not
so exciting. But the amount that
this cake , brought was surprising to
II who were present. The following
men were tile cana mates: Messrs,
Frank Grelner, Albert Felk and D,
C. Wilson. For some time the auc
tioneer and the supporters of the can- i bargains.
didates were solllctlng votes; but
when the time was called. It was
found that Mr. Wilson was the win
ner, receiving 352 votes, Mr. Felk
81C, and Mr. Grelner 85. These votes
being worth a cent each, the cake
brought $7.02. The cakes and boxes
brought a total of $47.01. After al
most everyone had enjoyed a good
supper and had a good time In gen
eral, the society adjourned to meet on
Saturday evening, January 11. -
We extend to all. an Invitation to
attend our literary, Although It has
not been as good as we would like to
have seen It, yet we have had several
Interesting and beneficial programs.
