Another case involving the power
of the federal courts to. interfere in
the execution of state railroad rate
laws will be taken up by the United
States supreme court on - Monday,
when the federal judges for the dis
trict of Nebraska Are ordered to ap
pear and show cause why a writ of
mandamus, asked for by the state of
ficials of Nebraska to prevent interfer
ence with the enforcement of the two
cent fare law, should not issue.

, It Is estimated that not less than
100,000 men, who have been Idle for
several weeks, owing to the shut
down of plants In the great indus
trial centers of the country, will re
turn to work. In the steel mills and
factories of , the Pittsburg district
alone 40,000 men will share In the re
turning prosperity. In Cleveland at
least 10,000 men will res-tnT work at
their former occupations, and hun
dreds of great factories und mills in
other cities' will begin operations on
Monday.
Aoki lo Sail for Homo.
Viscount Aoki, the Japanese ambas
sador, will sail from San Francisco for
Japan on Tuesday on the steamer
Manchuria. He will be succeeded at
Washington by Kogora Takahira, the
present ambassador to Italy and for
mer minister to' the t'nitcd States.
The ot'llclal reason given for Viscount
Aokl's recall was that his superiors
of the Japanese foreign office desired
to personally discuss with . him the
conditions In America affecting tie

America's armada under Admiral

be met by a squadron of Brazilian na

mony. Many fetes and celebrations
will be held In the Brazilian capital

Fight for Konatorxlilp.
With the meeting of the Kentucky
legislature Tuesday, the fight for the
Blue Grass senatorial toga will be In
augurated in earnest, although a final
vote will not be taken for two weeks.
The contest Is for a successor to James
B. Mccreary, whose term
March 4, 199. The ' regular demo
cratic nominee is ex-Governor J. C.
W. Beckham, although he is being op
posed by- many democrats. Former
Governor W. O. Bradley will be. the
republican caucus nominee.
Cotton Crop Reduction, -
Discussion of a proposition to re
duce the cotton acreage throughout
the south this year will be the princi
pal matter before the convention of
the Farmers' Educational and Co
operative union, to open In , Mem
phis, Tenn., on Tuesday. Another Im
portant convention to be held in the
south next week will be that of the
National League of Commission Mer
chants, which opens in Savannah, Ga.,
on Wednesday.
