Oregon Is the leading hop- growing section of America, this state having produced In 1907 approximately 130,000 . bales, while the total crop of the TJnlt- ed Ptntes was about 895,000 bales. Of the crop outside of Oregon, California produced 85,- 000 bales, Washington 40,000 bales and Vew York 40,000 bales. A bale of hops, on an average, weighs 188 pounds, making the crop In Oregon 24,440,000 pounds. Of the total crop, prob- ably 14,000,000 pounds has been sold, nt nn average price of about 10 cents a pound, making the returns thus fur $1,400,000. The remainder of the crop, Is In the handM of growers.
