C, T.b. 16 The com ing week in Congress and, in fact, all the 1 remainder of the session will probably be devoted almost exclusively to the appro priation bills. Leaders in both branches now realize that there will be little if any time to devote to the consideration of general legislation. It was said at the beginning of the session that the Repub lican programme was to pass the appro priation bills and let all else go by the board and it looks now as though this programme will be carried out pretty faithfully. The probability is that such general legislation as gets through be tween now and March 4 will be attached to appropriation bills at the last minute. A large party of representatives of the commercial clubs of Boston, Cincinnati, Chicago and St Louis is scheduled to sail from New York next Monday for Panama to ir.spect the isthmian canal. Interest in the municipal elections to be held throuahout Pennsylvania next Tuesday center in the contest in Phila' delphia, where the issues are practically the same a marked the memorable elec tion a year ago. E. H Harriman, Jacob L.Schiffk William Rocke feller and probably H. H. Rogers and H. C. Frick are expected to appear at wit nesses. The Democratic primaries to pick a a candidate for mayor of Chicago will be held Thursday, followed by the conven tion on Saturday. A heated contest is on between Mayor Dunne, who is a candidate for re-election, and former Mayor Carter Harrison. President Roosevelt accompanied by Mrs. Roosevelt will leave Washington Friday night for a two days' visit with Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., at Harvard Un iversity. The visit' it is announced, will be purely of a private character. Word was received from Portland th.s week to the eitect that Clay Kinehart, a .young business man of this city, had suc cessfully withstood the operation for ap pendicitis and would be able to return home in a few days, much to the gratifi cation of his many friends. Lun, railroad contractor at camp No. 6 in Wallowa canyon, was dangerously if not fatally injured Wednesday evening He was struck on the head by a loos rock from the hillside.
