The general idea is to get as close to
the people as possible. Our state law it
as near perfect as it is possible. The in
direct results are as great aa the direct.
Few laws will be enacted in this manner
but the council like the legislature know
ing that the people have thia right will
keep in close touch with the people.
While it is a fact hoped the days are
perceptably growing longer it is just as
hard to get up before breakfast as it was
month or so ago.

In view of the number of federal offic
ials who have recently become corpora
tion employes at much larger salaries, it
seems pertinent to wonder, if not to ask,
why their merile were not discovered
until after the government got after the
corporations ?
It is just one month until circuit court
convenes and not a few are interested as
which of the circuit judges of the state
that Judge Crawford will call to try those
cases in which he has been interested in
as an attorney. It will take some little
time to adjust these matters as Judge
Crawford for many years has enjoyed a
large practice in Wallowa county as well
ae in this.
The eleotric line from Walla Walla to
Milton will be completed within one week.
The Pendleton Tiibune states that "This
is but the beginning of a line extending
from Walla Walla to Umatilla via of
Pendleton." It is just as probable that
this is also just the beginning of the ex
tention of the line from Walla Walla to
Grande Ronde Valley to La Grande.
