Dunn and daughter Miss Laura left this morning for Prescot Washington, where they ill visit reia tives. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Churchill, who form erly owned the Pendleton Business Acad my, are in La Grande. They will make this city their home in the future. As yet they have not secured a home, and are guests at the hotel. There was a bustle and stir at the Armory hall last night. Scores of people new hardwood floor and it al most required a police call to quell the protests when the closing alarm was sounded at 1 0 o'clock. Judge Sam White returned vesterdav from a month's visit in Georgia at his old home where he was called by the seriojs illness of his mother. The venerable ladv is in ill health and is very feeble but rall ied somewhat while herson visited her and the Judge was able to return to Baker. He had hoped to reach here for Christmas with his family but on account of delayed trains was unable to do so. Baker City Herald. Mr. Robert Young and family, consist ing of his wife, his daughters Sarah. Marv and Mrs. R. Ryan of La Grande, Mrs. Wm. Dixon and her husband of Hilcard: also the sons of Mr. Robert Young, Joseph and William; and Mrs. Andrews of La Grande, Mrs. Rebecca Thurburof Hiigard were the guests of Mr. W. H. Williamson and family of Hiigard on Xmas. A fam ily Xmastree for the children was one of the interesting features of the occasion. Jones of StarKey were brot to La Grande this morning for interment in the Masonic cemetery. T-e funeral service was held in the Presbter:an church, Rev. Hays nflWstina. immed ate'.y after the arrival of the Portland train. Deceased has lived with her husband in Starkey. but recently went to a Portland hospital for treatments for cerebral troubles. However, the desease was fatal and sh e died yesterday morning. The com plaint accuses the defendant of deprmrg his team of food for over eight hours, and of having worked tho same team on the street during that period. Mr. Goodall pleaded not guilty to the charge. At torney Ramsey wiil act as counsel for the defendant at the trial, the date o? which has not yet been decided.
