La Oiarde's Lending .'ru?!cr and Optician MAKES TAX LEVY The city council last evening met and made the tax levy for 1906 of 7 mills for general purposes and 5 mills for spec ial purposes making a total of 12 mills which is expected to raise a revenue of $12,708 on the assessed valuation of the city which is $1,059,847. This is three mills higher than last year. We under stand that a portion of the increase, if not all. is tj be extended in making perman ent repairs on the main sewer that goes thru the city. B. Ames, administratrix for the estate of Geo W. Ames, deceased, has filed her final account with the county clerk. During the year 1906. 696 hunting licenses ha ve been granted in Union county. ADJUDGED INSANE Lester Victor, a young man of twenty five years, who suddenly went insane last week, and who has been he'd in tho city in hopes that he might recover, was last evening taken from the county jail and taken to the state asylum by an asylum attendant. For several days it appeared tint his mind would return, but at last it was found that it would be useless to keep turn here and he was accordingly tent to the insane institution.- We would suggest that while the germ of improvement is floating thru the Union County atsmpsnhers. that a likely place for a few of the said germs to locate, would be at the court house, and endea vor to stimulate the County Court to build a few s.de waiks. plant a lawn and make the grounds surrounding the build ing look in keeping with the Court house. During the holiday week, the ordinary routine of business is slow, a fact which insures the officials in the building." an opportunity to compile their re ports for the various offices. The Provisional Commercial ageen eot between Italy and Brazil, of Ju'y 6. 1900. has been extend ed until Dec. 31, 1908. By this agree ment Italian products are accorded the minimum tariff schedules in Brazil, and the Italian government pledges itself not to increase the present duty on Brazilian coffee, which is 130 france on each 100 kilos.
