pected to meet and prepare an estimate
of expenses upon which to form a basis
for the tax levy and it is expected the
election of a director to fill the vacancy
caused by the resignation of Judge Eakin.
We have been informed that further
action relative to our proposed new city
charter will have to be postpxicd unti
the legislature meets and ratifies tie law
under which it is to be referred to the

While the question of good roads .s
paramount at this time It is noticeable
what little interest generally is taken in
the matter by the businessmen. Every
merchant in this county is looser to a
much greater dcgieo that possibly many
of them realize and Uie poor condition of
our roads is responsible in a great mea
sure for much of the trade that is sent
away to the larao mill order houses.
These houses receive many small orders,
which in the agareaate runs into thou
sands of dollars during the year, from the
fact that it is easier to sit by the side of
a warm fire and make out their orders
and have the free rural delivery bring the
package ta their doors than it is for
them to hitch up a team and travel sev
eral miles thru an almost impassible lob
lolly. In the older eastern states that
enjoy miles of macadamized road, it Is
noticeable that on ramy days when the
farm work cannot be followed, the roads
