XMAS EVE BELL It is a charming and extremely lovable Dorothy Vernon tnat was portraved by Alberta Gallatin at the Tacoma theatre last night, in the historical romance 'Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall." Miss Gallatin has, beside her voice anrt beauty, a great deal of ability. She is an actress not yet come to her own, but should she keep ;n diing as well as she did last night it will not be long before the American public will recognize her as one of the country's artists. The play is a charming romance of the Elizabethan period and, tho closely as stciated with historical episodes, the in terest except for the strong lovs story wh en the play contains. CIMAXES ARE STRONG Charles Major, the author, has drawn his characters as one sees them in the pages of h.story. The scenery, too, is correct in every detail, the representation of Haddon Hall being an especially beautiful piece of work. The climaxes are strong and tho the play does not al low for much emotion yet Miss Gallatin is able to draw all. there is from the lines. James K. Applebee as the, jester does splendid work. The part is a minor one, but this does not hideh.s histnoncal abili ties from the audience. He is a good actor and one would like to see him in something bigger. Stewards opera house Monday Dec. 24.
