Even Pullman cannot claim it against Oregon a. comparison of scores .how. Oregon i. thi. year doubly champion. her Varsity team having won the North west championship and her second team being secondary champions of the state. Eugene High School defeated Columbia University at football on Thanksgiving Day by the score of 1 1 to 0. The game was played on Kincaid field. President Campbell, who ha. been ea.t was in Portland to see the game, and is expected home Saturday. Thanksgiving and the victory over Mult nomah were fittingly celebrated at the dormitory by a royal dinner. In addition to all the usual delicacies of the seaaon there was ice cream which the mildness of the weather made most agreeable. The University will have a basketball team thi. year. The schedule of game has hot yet been made but will doubtless include contest, .with all the near-by colleges with possibly a trip into Wash ington. The tryout will be held in the near future. Among the most promising aspirant, for the team is James Neill of La Grande. CLASS SCRAP Last Tuesday morning the freshmen were surprised to see a banner with the numerals of the sophomore class floating over Deady Hall. Watching their chance. they caught the sophs off their guard and succeeding in bringing the flag to the ground where they surrounded it and burned it amid shouts of triumph, while t ie few sophomores on the camp, looked on in chagrin. Toinking themselves vic torious the freshmen gave themselves over w rejoicing. But meanwhile the sophomores had been at work and soon he freshmen saw a second flag floating where the first had been and guarded by some 25 or 50 member, of Class '09. Quickly summoning their scattered fore, the "tenners"' laid seige to Deady Hall and soon forced ail its defenders to the roof. Even a stream of water from the fire-hose cou d not d slotige them from this position. But approaching darkness and rapidly falling temperature did whet the freshmen unaided could not do. The sophomores prcposed a conference and a compromise was reached, whereby the flag was taken down and givin to an upper classman. Then tnose on the roof descended and beseers and besiged went in a single body to Kincaid Field where they yelled in harmony for the football team that wis two days later to win fron Multnomah.
