Following it a clipping from th Oregon City Enterprise on tht merits of Mra. Reed, who will toon give a recital in this city: The musical .vent of the winter wat the recital given by Mra. Walter Reed in in the Woodman hall, under the auspices of the DenthickJCIub. The hall was crowded to the doors and was decorated with palms, Oregon grape and ferns, which war. arranged with exquisite taste and presented a striking appearance. Mrs. Reed was never in better voice and her rich contarlto rang strong and true. All of her numbers were received with delight and applause. Her opening num bers were cancluded by "The Kauia" (Chadwick) hich was enthusiastically received. "I'm Herlest" and two old French songs were grand. In this cluster tne artist threw her whole soul and the climax was all that the heart could desire and the mind could not conceive of songs more beautiful and thrilling than these, a nwi iau (xuk, niuiii LiUr.i and "Shcnggie," Shonggie Ma Bairnie" these catchy songs were received by the audi ence with marked pleasure and might perhaps be called tht gems of the even ing. After hearing Mrs. Reed in these one can easily understand how she has won the reputation of being the true artist that she is in her renditions of her Scotch songs. "Mightly Lak a Rose' was artistically rendered in a delicate style that was tweet and winning and she graciously responded to the repeated requests for her re-appearance "La Dauza" a meapoletata Tarabellt (Rossini) which was gorgeous classed an evening of song which will long linger in the minds of the listeners as one of unalloyed'plea's ure. Beautiful flowers were bestowed upon the singer and with her magnificent voice and charming personality she has won a place in the hearts of the people of Oregon City. premises nr dddress. In fact, so real is the 36 inch buzz saw, that one of the actors of the play had his right hand cut off at the wrist during 'a performance last season in Illinois. No play nowadays is complete without something in the way of mechanical effects. "Uncle Josh Spruceby" lays claim to one of the most novel scenes of any piece on the road this season. A ful and entirely practical saw mill is placed upon the stage and appropriate scenery is used to make a sups, ior stage picture. When the heroine is rescued from her perilous position at the climax of the act the hearty applause gives evidence of the appreciation of this acme of stoge real ism. The patrons of Stewards opera house wilt be entertained Tuesday, Nov. 4, by the big comedy production. "Uncle Josh Spruceby." This popular play comes well recommended and will no doubt be received with enthusiasm here. The piece is staged with every attention to stage realism. All the scenes are well mounted ar.d acted. The startling saw mill scene is said to be a masterpiece of of stage mechanism. Many specialties are introduced and the superb solo orch estra carried by the company all go to make this a very delightful production, j f STRAY NOTICE Having taken up a bay work horse weighing about 1200, left fore foot white also right hind foot half way to fie knee.
