the city sewer near the A. B. C. Laundry.
At the east end of the monster round
houes is a slump over ten feet deep.
,.Here will accumulate, because of the
qonitructed grade and sewer pipes, all
the oily water, and unsanitary substance
from every corner of the railroad yards.
This slump is so constructed as to allow
free passage of the surplus water and
oily substance, out all sediment, such as
cinders and ashes will be held there
until a sufficient amount has gathered to
warrant shoveling on a fiat car which can
M stationed conveniently by. Close by this
fclump will be a huge ditch to contain
ashes. The turn table pit. which gener
ally accumulates filth and unsanitary,
matter, is supplied with a sink hole and
.haling but cleanliness will be noticeable
In the pit.
The columns and beams for the roofflng
are in place for a distance of nine stalls.

caping the work. The contractors have
been calling loudly for carpenters, and
are offering from three to three fifty a

Consequently the progress it slow.
The steel beams that are to be placed on
he front side of the roof have not yet
arrived.
The pit for the turn table is rapidly
nearing completion. On the east end of
the round house, will be constructed at
toon at carpenters cm be procured a
50x70 foot one story tool room. Farther
east will be built a serviceable oil room.
However it will be near spring before
these improvements are finished. At soon
as they are work on the new machine shops
will be commenced. According to pres
ent plant, next fall will tee a completely
revised and improved round house in this
city. Not the ordinary tort of
round house, but o ne that it complete in
every detail. Engines can all but be made
here then, and wrecked enginet of the
worst tort can be reprired right here in
La Grande without the trouble of tending
them to Portland. Consider what this
means in the way of increasing the pay
roll of La Grande, and be thankful, that
good things continue to come our way,

TRYING ALLEGED MURDERER
(Scrlppe New Amoclatlon)
Herkimer. N. Y. Nov. 13. The state
today began its presentation in the case
of Curtis against Gillette in an attempt
to prove that Gillette killed Grace Brown
so that he might marry Miss Nettie Bene
dict. The defense has not announced its
plan, but it is likely that suicide will be
maintained. The lifeless body of Miss
Brown was found recently with every
mark of murder. She was lying in a
boat with her head crusted as if struck
with some blunt instrument. An oar
was found with blood and a lady't hair
ttill clinging to It.

How
We Make
You Safe
In buying the preparations that enter so largely into prescriptions, we pro
cure those made by houses who use assayed drugs. These are drugs that
have been subjected to analysit and their medicinal strength determined.
Such preparations cost more than many druggists care to pay, but no other
should go into prescription.
Though we employ the highest grade diugs, our prices are low and we do
nut believe are ever beaten.
