The system is the latest and most practical, and in cludes all the latest discoveries in the art of teaching music. The school is divided into two depart ments; No. 1 is for beginners from 6 years or more and are Liuyhl the first three crades. Pupils come one hour each day. This is no kin dergarten system but far superior. In No. 2 the grades are from 3 to 15. Here they graduate. Pupils take one or two lessons a week as they desire. No scholars will be permitted to remain in this school who do not study. Opposite the Foley Huuse over the candy store. Phone. 473. FLAK flU SUITABLE FOR SACKS Durine these days of jute mill agitation. the plans and propositions as proposed by the Grange of Oregon, are of much in terest. Mrs. WalJo, state lecturer for the erange. and who is lecturing in this county this week advocates a scheme whereby a jute mill will be a paying prop osition for the farmers, and the laboring classes in more ways than one. The management of the Walla Walla penitentiary divulged during the recent inspection by Oregon solon', that four years ago jute cost $ 1 1 per bale of four Hundred pounds each: last year it cost $18 and next year it will be purchased at $28. This entire quantity of jute is shipped to Walla Walla from India by English syndicates. In fact these shippers have cornered the jute market of the world and should Oregon establish a jute mill at Salem on the basis that Walla Walla's is. we would of necessity secure the ju.e from the same source. To alleviate this difficulty, let the farm ers of Oregon raise more flax, and use the course fibre of flax for grain sacks. This is practically as demonstrated by actual practice. The direct benefits will be man ifold. The price of sacks will be mater ially lowered, for two reasons; first, that thev will be made by eonvicb labor, second that the material from which they are made can be secured at a very reasonable figure. Then too, the farmer, will be benefited. His sacks will be cheaper and his supply of flax will make linseed oil and feed, and the waste material can be sold to make grain sacks and course linen. The movement is worthy of considera tion, as it certainly is feasible. All our groceries are good, clean, fresh, and pure. The kind that will make your meals very delici ous, and give the house-wife an easy task in prepairing it. We challenge the city on fresh farm produce and berries. Every thing' that should be found in a first class grocery. PROMPT DELIVERY PHONE MAIN 46 QEDDEJ" BR!J I NORTH FIR STREET PALMER HOUSE JOHN PALMER, Prop. TO IMPROVE ROADBED The 0.
