The Basket social given for the benefit of the Island City Football team, was a complete success both sociallv and finan cially. Mr. William Allinson of La Grande in his own innuitable style, auctioneered off the baskets at excellent prices. One basket of which especial mention might be made was a large football made in six sections by six high school girls which brot in the neat sum of twenty one dollars to swell the general fund. The following program was rendered, each participant giving delight to the audience. ' Piano duet. ; ; Misses Stella and Came Hunter. Reading Elsa Couch Vocal solo....... P. Day. the proprietor. Mr. Day belongs to that class which believes that what is worth doing at all is worth doing well, and adhere to that plan in his management of the poultry business. His poultry houses and fences are the best and built after the most modern plans. The Orchard Grove Poultry Farm is delightfully situated on a fifteen acre tract about three and a half miles from La Grande, and notwithstanding the fact that nature has done much to make the place especially adapted to the poultry business, Mr. Day has spared neither time nor expense to improve the natural conditions. At the present time he has son e three hundred pure bred chickens, which are all in the very finest condition. He makes a specialty of white and brown Leghorns and Orphingtons. Each breed is kept separate and there is posi tively no intermingling of breeds. In each lot is a neat grass plot and running wat er, therefore the stock is kept in a thrifty growing condition at all times. Every convience for properly handling the chickens is provided. Taking all into consideration, .he Orchard Grove Poultry Farm is a model of neatness and com pleteness. Persons who desire first class poultry stock, or who deliight in seeing fine birds should call upon Mr. Day and see the handsome pure bred stock which he has on exhibition. POOR EELIOWS A Nevada editor is in trouble because he recently published an obituary article concerning a man who made a fortune as a promoter of mining interest. The tri bute was headed "Death Loves a Shining Mark," but the printer got it "Mining Shark," and three husky sons of the deceased survive him. 10 TEAMS WANTED $4 per day to haul 5 loads of gravel or eand from my gravel bar.
