Washington, Oct. 19 The President
this afternoon ordered General Greeley,
who is commanding the Northern division
to send a suitable force of cavalry into
Wyoming to compel the Ute Indians to re
turn to their reservation.
MURDER AT PENDLETON
Pendleton, Oct. 18 Tom Myers is dead
and old man Hironimus is seriouly wounded
as a result ot a deadly fight on North
McKay this afternoon. Thus far the
reports of the affair have been very mea
gre, but from parties living on the head of
McKay it was learned that the quarrel
occurred over some horses.
Hironimus is said to have accused
Myers of having ridden horses belonging
to the former, and in a quarrel which
ensued, guns were used by bot'- men.
Myers fired twice at Hironimous while
the latter fired once at Myers with a
shotgun, striking him in the neck and
killing him instantly.
The condition of Hironimous is serious
and he is now being brought to this city
for surgical aid. Immediately after hear
ing of the fight this afternoon Sheriff Joe
Blakely, Coroner Folsom and others left

New York, Oct. 19.-Frederick Pome
roy. the man arraigned for issuing rebates
in the capacity of assistant general traffic
agent for the Central railroad, was fined
a thousand dollars on each of the six
counts on which he was found guilty. In
all, fines totaling $108,000 have been
imposed on the New York Central by
Judge Holt of the federal court, for grant
ing rebates to the American Sugar Re
fining Company.

SURVEY ABOUT COMPLETED
City Engineer Pickier has about com
pleted his survey from Beaver creek to
this city, expecting to finish the actual
field work this week if the weather does
not interfere. Then commences the office
work which will require a number of days
before he will be able to file his report of
the estimated cost of bringing the waters
of Beaver creek' to this city for domestic
purposes. When this report is completed
it is the intention of the council to submit
the proposition to the voters and they will
decide whether or not the city is to be
bonded for a safficier.t sum to bring this
about.

SMALL POX IN WALLA WALLA
Ignorant of the nature of the disease he
was suffering with. Ira Fancher, who
came to Walla Walla from Boise 10 days
ago, walked the streets and mingled with
the crowds a week ago Saturday, while
ill with a well defined case of smallpox.
Fancher is quarantined at his parents'
home in College Place and County Health
Office Stewart has notified City Physician
Braden to keep a close watch for a poss
ible epidemic of smallpox, resulting from
rancher mingling with the shopping
crowds before he became aware that he
was suffering with the d sease. Walla

an uninsured stock of pianos, valued at
$75,000 in the store rooms of Kohler ti
Chase. The blaze is attributed to debris

NEBRASKA FRAUDS
Lincoln. Neb., Oct. 19 The federal
grand jury today indicted twenty seven
charged with fraudulent land entries and
selling liquor to Indians. Some of the
most prominent Nebraskans are
said to be involved, their names are with
held. The President has ordered a vigor
ous prosecution.
