Owing to inadequate space the section of the association dealing with trust companies sat in the Shoreham Hour. Mr. E. F. Swmney. president of the First National Bank of Kansas City delivered an address on banking business and its growth in the country. Impor tant business was transacted by special invitation of Secretary Shaw of the Treas ury the visiting bankers had unlimited opportunities of v ewing the workings of the Treasury Dept. Every nook and corner of the department building and the bureau of engraving and printing was thrown open to them and experts in the various branches of the service were on hand to explain how the business was conducted. One of the colors was given by women interested in the Putman Pha lanx of Hartford and the other by the state ex-Lieut. Governor Douglas, Col. Mrs. Upton, of Waukegan, will speak on the Worn ens' Clubs as a factor in Civic Beauty. Mrs, Upton, piesident of the Women's Outdoor Art League of the American Civic Asso ciation. All the vice-presidents of the different districts made verbal reports on a great variety of topics, especially on town improvement and forestry. Rev. Gibson says that the laying of brick is now on the program and will commence immediately. The structure certainly will be a credit to the city. A glimpse at the blue prints will convincs the most crit- cal that the structure will be modern in every respect SNOW FLYING IN OHIO (Scrlpps News Association) Cineinatti, Oct 10 Snow fell over a large part of Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. BtKTflK THE WALLS Beginning last Monday the brick wall of the new round house began to loom up and today the wall has reached a height of four feet for a distance of nine stalls. Nine bricklayers are working like Trojans and it is predicted that by Saturday even ing the wall will be complete on the west end and in the rear for a distance of nine stalls. This mornirg the wall had reached a height even with the bottom of the win dowt and consequently the window frames are now being cased in with brick. On the west end there are three triple win dows, and in the rear wall there are two large double windows for every stall. These, combined with the large cupola that will adorn the roof, will insure an abundance of light in the round house. With the continuance of good weather, nine more stalls will be bricked up a week hence. Intersecting the middle of the large structure, and rising from the ground through the roof will be a thick cement firewall. This is to reduce the chances of fire. In case the roof of the round house should ever be ignited, it would be impossible for more to be consumed than the hilf in wnich it started. The city water mains lie directly under the district on which the turn table is to be located. and to relieve this difficulty, the O. R. & N. will divert the course of the main by inserting additional pipes Excavations are ow be ng made for these pipes and when they are in place, the water will be led in a circular direction about the ssction to be taken up by the turntable. The pipes are enroute to La Grande and it will he but a matter of a few days until the original water mains' courte will be changed to at to circle the turn table pit. JAMESTOWN EXPOSITION ITEMS (Observer Special) The management of the Jamestown Exposition promises that evolution by dirigible baloont and air ships will be among the every day sights of the great celebration. Since the big show at St Louis, vast improvements have been made in the air-craft and the best on earth will be shown at Jamestown. The steam power developed by the stupendous fleet of war vessels to be as sembled in Hampton Roads at the James town Exposition will far exceed that cf any Manufacturing city in the world. The war fleet in Hampton Roads it the Jamestown Exposition will develop more electric lighting power thaa that of any city in the world of one million population or less. During the Jamestown Exposition there will always bs at least one hundred vessels of war at anchor or in svolution in Hampton Roads, within sight of the grounds in addition to the marines fleet of more than two hundred craft The night illumination of this immense fleet will be one of the great world spectac les. There are in Hampton Roads more than one hundred and sixty square miles of sheltered anchorage. It requires one quarter of one hundred tquare miles for tafe anchorage for a war thip and it will thut be teen that when the great war fleett of the world come to the James town Exposition there will be room for all of them. LARGEST SHIP YET TheCunrad steamship Co has just laun ched the biggest ship yet, it is the Maur itania. The new queen of "greyhounds" is of the turbine type. It is 790 feet long 88 feet wide has a displacement of 45, 000 tons and a speed of 1 5 knots an hour The same day there wer launched from British shipyards the largest armoured cruiser in the world and the second larg est ship in the world. The former it the Mhannor for the British navy and the latter the White Star liner Adriatic. The Adriatic it 710 feet lohg. ((tinge in Management The eastern stockholders of the Central Railroad of Oregon became dissatisfied with the management of President Alonzo Cleaver and asked for his resignation and Mr. Robert Man is now filling that posi tion. Mi. Cleaver still retains his posi tion as one of the directors. At far at the general policy of the road it concerned there will be no change. The company yesterday received a tele gram stating that eleven cars of rails had just been shipped and would arrive in due time. There seems to be a conflict of author ity as to the power of demanding Mr. Cleaver's resignation and Mr. Cleaver doubts their ability to permanently remove him. Mr. Cleaver was the original promoter in securing this project although he had many loyal workers with him, and while the general public has no interest in 'he detail management of the company, many of Mr. Cleaver's warm personal friends in this county recognize that he has been no small factor in the development of the county. Mr. Marr, the new president, during hit two yeart connection with the road, hat identified himself with the business inter ests of the county in such a manner as to enjoy the confidence of all and in cats a change it contidered necessary would be pleased to have him continue as president and general manager.
