The ship it still at its slip in the East River and will be ready to start out in a day or two. All that remains to be done is the provisioning of the ship and the adjustment of a few details concerning the fitting up of the quarters of the officers and men. Capt Swift who is said to be in the line for promotion to rank of Rear Admiral. is in command of the Connect icut; Lieutenant Commander Shoemaker is executive officer; Lieutenant Command er Dhandler is navigator and Lieutenant Fullinwider ordnance officers. . . The Connecticut has a displacement of 16,000 tons and a contract speed of 18 knots. The armament includes four-twelve-inch, eight eight-inch, twelve-seven-inch and twenty-three-inch guns, besides thirty of various calibres. W, D. Grandv. James A. Russell AMUSEMENT A CREDITABLE SHOW A packed house, despite other attrac tions in the city, witnessed the "Mil lion aira Tramp" last avenine. Tha caste contained two actors of no mean ability. These were the leading man and tha villan. The millionaire tramD carrvino the leading role was a new type of the weary Willie and instead of the usual old and stale hobo's jokes he was generally springing original ones. The morality of the starv was well depicted by this cleve tramo. ' From a lucrative position he fell to the plana of a arunkard because of an overpowerin g temper. After rambling around the world in a listless manner he was finally won back to a straighter path because of the kind acts and words of other peo ple. The villan too. was aooi. His oradua! attack of insanity was natural and earned me nate and hisses of the audience, a sign of clever acting. The spectators were suddenly scared and later amused at the indignant "opera hojjs mmsjar,' when that individual entered from the rear of tha house and threatened to smash the foot lights. A brand new editi on of Pete Peterson which Elmer Walter describes at hit pet play will be given at Stewart Opera House. Theatre goer are gradually becomining tired of the same kind of farce comedy and melo-d,ama and are contin ually on a lookout tor an attraction otter ing new ideas and originality. In Pete Peterson Mr. Walters has created a Swedish Comedy which is not . easily copied. The play is entirely new this season and todate has been the most successful of any of his attractions, The characters are all people of today. The story bearing one the trials and a tribultions of a happy but unlucky Swede whose detective aspirations and love for a girt got him intj many luderious as well as serious predicatients but from which he emerges always triumphant. A capable cast elegant special scenery and four beautiful dogs are used in it presentat- on Friday Oct, 5.
