There the farmers may come in contact with friends and acquaintances in almost endless number and participate in tie pleasures which accompany these an- opportunity to compare notes with other followers of agriculture and thus derive untold benefit in the way cf possible new ideas in bringing their broad acres and Mocks and herds to the highest state of production. Pacific Homestead. The Hunting Season is now Open. Something new in J AUGUST TOR CRIME Criminal cases come by twos, threes, fours and half dozens, not singly, says the district attorney. In his experience of several years as prosecutor and deputy prosecutor, Mr. Phelps has discovered there must be something in the weather or general conditions that causes criminal acts. For several weeks peace reigned tnroughout Umatilla county, then came a flood of wrong doing the other day that was surpiising in its extent from Walla Walla to the Morrow county line. It is also noticeable that criminal acts occur with greater frequency during deg days. The humor of men seems to be different at such times. They are more irritable, gloomy and mean. In this county nearly every August is a month of criminal record. During one September term of court 15 men were sent to the penitent iary. Another six. More murders have occurred in this county in August during recent years than during any other period of three month's time. Such things can scarcely be mere nappenings. The regu larity of the occurrences indicates, at least, that there is some general rule or law governing the actions of men of criminal tendencies. Pendleton Tribun?. ri j r ...
