It is in the country where the great national problem of the improvement of the rual lifa .s to be solved, where more beautiful towns and villages and oetter roads are. to be built, better schools to be established, telephones and trolley lines constructed, and all the influences put to work that will socialize the country, and drive away the isolation and hardships that were formerly its drawbacks. We must not only stjp and reverse the great tide of population that has been drifting from the country to the cities. We must decentralize industry and trade a9 well, as population. John Cort has completed the cast of "The Strength of the Weak" which will go into rehearsal at the Berkeley Lyceum Thea tre, September 1st, and open the season of the Broad Street Theatre Philadelphia, September 17th for two wseks. Miss Roberts will use "The Strength of the Weak" next season until she returns to New York with several new plays. Quite the most recent device to be at tempted in a dramatic production will be found in "The Illusion of Beatrice," the new comedy by Martha Morton Conheim, in wh'ch Maude Fealy will start next sea son. The second act represents a bache lor suite on the 5th floor of an apartment hotel. In the center of the set, a door leads to the hallway, opposite which is an elevator shaft. The operation of a pract ical elevator provides the innovation which John Cort has introduced in his latest production. Speculation anent the name of the com edy in which Max Figmar. will star next season has incited the managers in var ious towns along his route to adopt a nov el method of advertising the comedians forthcoming engagement. When the lists of attractions booked at the various thea tres were published, the elimination of Figman's starring vehicle brought forth a number of inquires. In fact while it has 1 been announced that he would appear in a comedy which enjoyed a successful run here last season, the name nas been with- ! held. In Troy. N.
