' In a letter to the assessor of Wallowa

Exemption, State Attorney General
Crawford writes as follows: "While I
regret that the supreme court decided
that the exemption to householders is un

that it is best for all taxing officers to
observe the law as declared by the court,
and. therefore, to readjust their rolls
accordingly." Oregon Scout.

The county court of Baker county is
going after the road overseers, and here
after will insist on knowing where the
work has been, how many men and teams
were employed and how much time was
put in, also how much work was done.
The lump sum road bill devoid of
specifications, except that the work was
done in a certain district, is going out of
fashion in Baker county. The Oregon
oad graft is very great in some cases,
and the only protection the people have
is through the county court. Eagle.

SHOULD BE A LAW
Here's a chunk of good news for our old
maids, if they can only be induced to
confess their real ages. A genius who is
a member of the legislature and who feels
sorry for the lonely old maids, has a plan
to get a law passed that when the single
women get to be thirty years old, that
they shall be allowed the privilege of
picking out a man for a husband, and if
I he refuses when proposed to he must pay
a fine, one half to go to the old maid he
wouldn't accept.
