ing of a constitutional government for
the Transvaal was introduced in the
House of Commons this morning and is
regarded as the most important construc
tive legislation which has been before

Reports from the Yakima valley, which
is one of the large potato producing sec
tions of Washington, are to the effect that
the crop will be very light this year on

Queer find at Lewiston
While an excavation was being made in
the basement of the Raymond house yes
terday, the remains of-a complete pack
outfit were unearthed, evidently a relic of
pioneer days. The skeleton of a pack
saddle, parts of a small stove, a pair of
boots, clothing, bottles, some of which
still retained part of their contents, and
mule shoes, were among the decayed re
mains. There were also several bones

Henry Clay, section foreman at North
Powder, had hit hand and wrist badly
bruised and broken today while loading

a crew of men was lifting the heavy
rails to a flat car when one of the rails
already on the car fell off. Mr. Clay
stepped aside far enough to get his body
out of the way but not quick enough to
save his hand. The heavy rail caught
the fingers in some peculiar manner
bending them backwards. The member
was also badly cut and bruised.
He was brought to this city on a freight
where doctors Bacon and Hall dressed
the bruises.

the 299 delegates to the Republican sute
convention, which opens here tomorrow,
have arrived. Many caucuses have been
held and it is conceded that the conven
tion will unanimously adopt a plan for the
nominating of a candidate for the United
States senator. W. E. Borah, of Boise
City will receive the nomination for that
office and the supporters of Borah object
to naming other candidates and a harj
fight it expected. The committee on pro
gram will ignore the Mormon issue.
