NEW fRUIT PEST
Cherry and pear crops are seriously
menaced by a worm known as "slug"
which has made its appearance in Spokane
and is rapidly devouring the foliage of the
trees.
A. F. Crowell fruit inspector for Spok
ane county has made an investigation
esiaonsniiig me seriousness or the new
pest and prescribes that all trees so af
fected be sprayed with arsenate of lead
diluted in 40 parts of water. L L. Good
win has been recommended by Mr. Crow

The slugs like the San Jose scale teem
to effect the fruit t ees in the city having
not yet invaded the country orchards.
While the slugs are not as dang erous
as the scale they have the capacity to
ruin the cherry and pear crop for this
and next season.
