Walter Guy of LeorH Kansas, who had
been work in in the railroad varHa at
Huntington, and playing ball with the
team trom that city, mat with a grue
some accident yesterday. . He was
thrown under an engine in some way, and
the wheels severed one of hi limb. He
was taken to the hospital at Baker City
Guy was on of the best catcher in the
state, and when seen here with a -'Huntington
team a few weeks ago. won the
praise of all for his clever work. !
WAUm BRIDGE NEAR COMPLETION.
r The. work on 4h Wallowa bridge ie
progressing rapidly and in the course of
a few days will be completed and ready
for usOThe bridge is located about 160
s above the location of the old bridge
which brings it just below the mouth of
the Minam river. This will be a grea
help to traffic both from Wallowa and
Union counties, as stock and vehicles can
now cross the river without danger of
drowning, as has been the case up to the
present time.
EINAL PRACTICES.
The fir department boys were out
last evening practicing their staunts for
the Fourth. They limited the work to
starting and sprin ing, and as a final
wind-up of the evening' work, thy ran
the full 200 yards and strung 300 feet
of hose. The time, though not announc
ed was creditable. The boy have work
ed hard and should win their share of
the races tomorrow. A hose cart, es
pecially adapted for this purpose arrived
from Walla Walla last night and will be
used in the races.
