June 29 The cot ton manufacturers of this city have grant ed the operators a fourteen per ' cent in crease of wases. About twenty-five thousand hands will be benefited by the increase. The new scale, which will take effect next Monday, is oractieallv the same as that prevailing previous to July 1 1904. As other New Ensland Cotton Manufactoring centres follow the lead of Fall River, ae rule, the the chaiura is expected, ultimately to effect all cotton mm workers in this taction. The controversy leading ud to the set tlement of the present wage question was one of the shortest in the history of Fall River textile troubles. For several months the unions had been dissatisfied with their dividends, these averaging lately but four and five, with occasionally eiget per cent. As a result of e meeting of the textile council early in June a letter was sent to the Manuf cturers' Association on June 8, requesting a restoratiou of the 12 H per cent reduction in wages made in 1904. Thie request was refused by the manufacturers, who offered to oaur- antee dividend of five per cent, dating from June 18 to October 1. The unions refused to accept the proposition. A fourteen percent tncreate on the Drasant wages is necessary to bring about a re storation oi the IZ )i pr cent reduction of 1904. The nee rate will be uhiitnrH for the sliding scale dividend system. FOR RENT-Pleasant furnished front room at 908 Main Street St. PETER'S EPISCOPAL CHUKCH , Upton H. Glbba, ractor .
