AMERICAN MATERIAL rOR (ANAL (Bcrlpps News Association) Washington, June 2 The Senate has passed a bill providing that supplies, equipments and materials for building the Panama canal shall be purchased from American manufactures and producers unles the bids art exorbitant ALASKA Of GOLD METAL (Sorlpprj News Association) Far banks. Alaska, June 2- One million and a half doll'rs worth of gold dust, representing part of the winter's clean-up at Tanana is now enroute to the essay office. . Adolph Gravass, who came from Da -son in early days, jumped from the Steamer tchwatkaat Eagle and drowned. The fifth victim of last winter's cold came to light in the skeleton of ' man found by prospectors in the Chantanika river. Evidence shows that the frozen party had tried to light a fire. TO THE PUBLIC And the Republican Voters of La Grande and Union County Oregon I trust that none of the Republicans of Union County will be influenced in their votes by the false and malicious attacks of Turner Oliver against J. C. Henry in the issue of June 1st 1906. Turner Oliver would have at Just a cause to attack any Republican on the ticket be cause I am supporting him at he would have to bring me into thit fight againtt Mr. Henry, His only object it to create ttrift in the Republican rar.ks. Mr. Henry's record it an open book: he re ceived the nomination at tht hands of the majority of the republicans party at tht primary election. Now I as a Republi can am supporting the whole Republican ticket including Mr. Henry. There is a disposition among some (few) Democrats to create strife among what at one time was factional strife in La Grande but 1 sincerly trust that that timt hat passed when they can succ ed. 1 have tried to do my part to elimi a.e the tame for tht benefit of our town and county and I trust Mr. Oliver's contortions will react upon himself as unfair, unjust, untruthful, a slanderer, and a selfish ingrate, both to his party and his friends : nd the citi zens by fencing and trying to hold part of the City of La Grand's ttreets to the detriment of tome of its Citizens and for his own personal and selfish gain. Is he fair is he just? Can he fool the voters now by his false and malicious attacks on individuals who have always shown by their acts and backed by liberal con tributions of their means to be loyal to the upbuilding of La Grande, their homes, and Union, County. For the past 15 or 20 years, again appealing to tne Repub lican voters to be on their guard and sup port the nominees on the Republican ticket and not be fooled or Cajoled by such blatants as Turner Oliver. J. W. Scriber The funeral of the late 0. Kirkpatrick will take place tomorrow afternoon from the family home in Island City at 2 o'clock Rev. E. B. Hays will officiate. CARD Of THANKS I wish to thank the many friends for their generous support given me in the Oregoman contest. Allif. STEVENS. MOIST JOY Of all the joys ihat children boast.
