a body. Mrs. T. J. Scroggin sang a
beautiful solo and Rev. E. B. Hays deliv
ered tfie sermon.
The following is a synopsis of ths Msm-'
orial sermon by Rev. Hays of the Pres
byterian church.
Ae chose as his theme "The Times We
Live in. and How tb Meet Them," and
took his text from I Chron. 12-82, ' And
the children of Issachar which were men
that had ..understanding of the times to
know what Israel ought to do." The
speaker pointed out that the men of un
derstanding of those times were men in
touch with the Divine purpose who had
a clsar comprshsnsion of ths changes
and revolutions which was then In pro
gress and adjusted themselves to the
changed condition:.
Continuing. Mr. Hays said that the
men who have accomplished meet in
history are those who had an understand
ing of their times as did toe puritans and
the men of ' 61." , The battles of today
are fought for principles' and not for the
supremacy of a royal family. On the
field. of. Waterloo, there art 'One or ' two
monuments to the memory of a reigning
family. On the field of Gettysburg, their
are 600 monuments erected to the mem
ory of the private soldiers. Ths follow
ing poem was written by his uncle.

Nor can we forget the women who as
nurses, labored in the hospitals without
fear of ths fever. Tr.e speaker then
gave an anecdote illustrating the heroism
shown by the mothers during the war,
whose names will be held in memory in
all the future history of our country.
In order to meet the times in which we
'ive, we must be men in touch with our
age and adjust ourselves to ths changed
conditions. New theories are advanced,
new foes are in the field and old adopt
new tactics. Ths futurs will havs Its
Waterloo, Gettysburgs, and Manilas but
they will not be fought on field already
historic.
We are living in stirring times, there is
a breaking with the past
