W. A. Richards, Commissioner. Approved: Thos. Ryan, ng i, . i i, ' . i . i ' i . Jn the rescent primary election, no maa put up a fairer fignt tnan Col; Ivanhoe, who repeived the nomination for District Attorney. While a committee acted for him, he limited their services to statements absolutely true, and prohibited every thing cffjnsive to all other candidates, as they were, and still are, his personal friends. He seemed to fully comprehend the pur poses of the primary election law, which he has always favored, and is now the ; choice of his party, for the office he seeks. To those acquainted with him, he needs no introduction, .-He is not an unkown quantity, personally or poiaicauy,- ,i riendships are strcng and lasting, and hose who disagree with him. admit his fairness and ability. His standing -and reputation at the bar is a fixed factor in the result at the primary, and makes his election an assured fact. He earn from Wallowa county,. to this county nine years ago without a client, and has," by his in dustry, ability and integrity, built, up a practice any attorney should be proud of For six years he has been a member of the school-board in this city, , and during time curs .hoolshavi increased from that teaching force of fourteen to twenty one and he has' always shown himself equal to any emergency of the district demand ing thoroughness in results and economy in administration, . As Referee in Bank ruptcy he has bad Immediate charge of all bankruptcy matters in this section for the past five years, settling estates that were compl'cated, and involving a multi plicity of interests. In this work the only one appeal has been taken from his deel alone, and in that case his action was af firmed, giving to laborers several thousand dollars. As City Attorney for the past two terms, he has been careful, faithfu and competent In tl'.e only Circuit Court litigation for the city, he has been suc cessful, and expects to have the action of the Circuit Court affirmed on appeal This is what is known locally as the 0 Street case, where Oliver claims a portion of the street city claims he has fenced in This case is now pending in the Supreme Court As Vice-President of the Com mercial Club for the past two years, he has been found progressive and resource ful. In other words, he has always been found equal to any position he has occu pied, and measured up to every th'ng re ouired. No district in the state, after June next wilt have more able prosecut ing attorney than that district. We ' con fidently predict he will have a majority that will surprise his best friends.
