road came over last evening to meet his
wife who has been spending several
months in California. She was In Oak

The baseball team is doing some good
hard practice work this week in prepar
ation for the coming big games with
Athena. Athena has an exceptionally
strong team for this part of the season
and whil e La Grande has a good ag
regation, they have not played any real
games, and are handicapped to some ex
tent by having the prestige that is gained
by playing a few games. However they
will give the' Yellow Kids one of the
grandest races, they ever had. Games
called at three p. m. Saturday and Sunday.
. The ladies of the Lyle Tuesday Mus-
icale will give an open recital next
Tuesday evening, May 8, at the Com
mercial CInb. Mrs. Clara Lyle and
Miss Lillian McCall are arranging a
most interesting program, The public
