Walla Walla Boosters and the Yellow
Kids of Athena are to play at the tatter's
grounds today and at Pendleton tomor
row. The Yellow Kids have lost their
crack catcher, Danny Shea, who goes to

league. While Athena loses a good man,
Walla Walla has cinched two good men
a catcher from the' 3-1" and third base
man Yates of Spokane.
The Northwest league opens today at
Spokane when Butte plays ths Spokane
Indians.

Athena April 28 Robertson of the
Nw York Athletic club won the stand
ing broad jump today with a jump of
nine feet eight and a third inches.

The Central Church Sunday School
ooys proved too big' and strong for the
Methodists this morning, and they roiled
up scores at will. The Blue Mountain
boys held even for three innings when
the Improvement boys took a lively spurt
and completley snowed under their small
opponents. The score was 28 to 0. The
batteries were: B. M. A. C. , Grady and
Louis, B. I. A. C. , Meyers and Ralston.
' The Christians will journey to Island
City this afternoon where they will en
deavor to vanquish a boys' team there.
NO GAME TOMORROW
There will be no game tomorrow, as
Manager Heisner has been unable to get
a team here. Negotiations have been
going on with Elgin, but the game finally
fell through.

Manager Heisner has booked two
games with the Walla Wa lla Boosters to
be played there on the IS and 14 of next

returned last evening. He left here

miles to Wallowa arriving tiiera in time to
deliver his address. Three lodges were
represented therend Mr. Finn says that
their anniversary program was a decided
success. -

PURCHASING HORSES
Several head of draft horses have been
purchased in Elgin the past few days by
Messrs Erickson and Peterson, the con
tractors, for use in the completion of the
railroad to Wallowa county. Excellent
prices are being realized for this class of
horses but the supply is becoming rather

FOREST EXAMINATIONS
The United States Civil Service Com
mission announces an examination at
Portland. Roseburg. La Grande and
Prineville, Oregon on the 14th, of May.
Supervisors examination will be held on
the same date in all large cities.
