You stated that your purpose a submitted . it to Drovide the people of La Grande with a food. abundant and wholesome tupply of water, and that th water of Mornan Lake can be made so merely by filtration, before delivery to the consumer. The question arise-Can you purify 300,000 gallon of that water every day in the year, if needed. imply by passing t through th same filter? And if o how often would, you have to clean your filtering process? While ' it is admitted that.it i possible to clearify water, but can you purify that volume ot wui 'w; and remove all deleterious matter from it? Suppose th water contain malaria germ, will mere filtering detroy th amer especially can uch filtering be accomplished by a mere mechanical ap paratus? Will it not require a chemical process to eradicate the disease germs from the water? Will it not require por ous stone, sand, chorcoal to filter In any effectual manner? Will not the c-resence of solid matter soon clog or obstruct per colation in such a manner a to force th water through necetsary ODenincrs with tuch rapidity that It will not be any pur er man when ft leave th lake? Hat not this water been declared oolluted and un fit for domestic use by competentchemists? You state that the Interests of your company are identical with those of the city, not sentimental but a ttraight bus iness proposition to be considered that way by both parties. Your corporation sxacts a. deal with th city to take a eer--ain quantity at a certain price to be closed at once but what does- your cor poration bind itself on its part? If the the city shall contract with vou as vou exact will you enter into a bonded guar anty that the water you shall supply shal be pure, wholesome, fit for domestic ue n all respacte-and perfectly free of all Jeleterious matter or germs?
