Attend the primaries on April 20th. Register and vote at the primaries. Remember you make or should make the ticket on April 20th. If tVm Is. rs- . r a r .. J . 1 ... v-jvtw uiiu ui primaries the county ticket will be composed of the right kind of men. This applies to l,.k . : uwi pal uw. Every registered voter in Union and Wallowa county will receive copy of this edition and the Observer wishes it might say something that would cause every voter and taxpayer to realize the importance of registering and attending the primaries. This is new law and unless the people take an interest there will be an immense pressure to reinstate the old boss system, which will be im possible if the people do their duty. The past system has greatly retarded the growth of Oregon. This is a new era and t is up to. the vote r-to do their own thinking and voting. Think over the opportunity now in your hands and after it is permanently adopted nothing could persuade its abolishment. ' ''..'. Every voter owes it as a duty to him self, his country and his state to register and take part in the primaries. The cry in this state for years has been "down with the bosses." This is the first time the people have had an opportunity to free themselves from the dictation of assumed leaders and unless they now come to the front with their votes, after giving all of the candidates careful con sideration, the present law will result in a dismal failure, lf.it is a failure the people themselves are to blame. If only a few turn out at the primaries it will be found that the present law can be worked much easier than the old system. Voters and Taxpayers especially, don't let the primaries go by default resolve, right now that rain or shine no matter what comes up you will attend the primaries and vote for the best men. ON WOMAN'S SITFRAGI Mr. William M. Ivans, the late Repub lican candidate for Mayor., of New York City, in his speech at the luncheon in honor pf the 86th. birthday of Susan B. Anthony, said in part: 'I am here today because I believe this to be my place. It is the duty of every man to uphold the hand of every woman in her efforts to redress a great and un speakable political wrong. How can any man with a heart and a soul and an Intellect look his wife or daughter in the face and say that he is entitled to any political right which she does not possess? That man has the soul of a hypocrite who tells you that he belioves himself entitled to the ballot for the protection of his life, libjrty and prosperity and wishes to deny to his. wife, the mother of hi Children, an equal r'giit in the mainte-' nance of liberty, property an) prjsperit ," Such an attitude of mind is inconceivable to me. "And jt I cannot conceive of the denial of this riht by man still SSj can I understand its denial by w mjn. Of all inconceivable W ings on earth, the womnn anti-autTragisls are the most so. They consider themselvdt )ualirtod to Jncusj these questions, but naqmlilaj to cast a ballot They ore ui ie soc ei et u ckan our streets aiU oin jtj j;i.oJ govenunent of all kinds, ,u ml j t.i ballot which it? rr r t Improves the flavor and adds to the health fulness of the food would enable them to choose servants to do these very things. They prefer privi leges bo amy. Lot UHllll till tiieu uul t the side of men and women and not be so supremely unwomanly as to seek nothing but privileges. "History has shown us that women are the civilizers of society. They are the beings who make the characters of men, and to assert that they have .not the right to vote by the side of men is the absolute negation of reason."
