The small Apennine Republic , of San Marino, the oldest and smallest in the world, and scarcely known outside of its narrow frontier, except to stamp collectors, has just re-entered upon a democratic regime. The Arringo, as the original representa tive body of the Republic is called, has once more met and the citizens of .San Marino numbering . in - all about 1700 families, have once more been restored to their civic rights. Under the original constitution of San Marino the govern ment of the Republic consisted of a gen eral assembly of heads' of families, the so-called Arringo, and of a Grand Council of Sixty, composed of twenty nobles, twenty citizens and - twenty- mmiuowimi. Gradually, however, the Republic became more and more of an . oligarchy and the Arringo ultimately became a mere name, while the Council of Sixty, elected for life, and itself electing members to All any vacancies caused by death, was practic ally absolute. This was the state of things when Addison visited San Marino two centuries ago and this has been the condition until the present day. During the last few years, however, there ' was so strong an agitation against this oligar chic system, that, to prevent a revolution, the Arringo has been revived. It is now in session and there is peace and happi ness throughout the reborn republic. - OPW liDPAlN ; When asked what Osteopathy has to take the place of opium as a relief from pain. Dr. A. T. The cat would instantly be relieved, and not mere ly relieved of suffering, but a permanent good would be done, as the ' cause of its trouble would have been removed."- This little story illustrates crudely the osteopathic idea of treatment. It is not to giv powerful drugs, which can only mask the symptoms of the disease, but to search for the cause of the trouble some physical obstruction to nerve life, and oiooa now in tne main and to remove this abnormal pressure. There is a wide difference between thus destroying by drugs the sanity of the nerves of sensa won wnicn were designed to apprise us of conditions inimical to health and re moving those conditions.
