Hi truth is marching on. ; I hsve seen him in the watch-fire 6f a hundred circling camps; They have builded him an altar in the evening dew and damps; I can read his righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamp. His day is marching oa. I have read a fiery gospel, writ in burnished rows of steel; "As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace s.ll deal; Let the hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel. Since God is marching on." : He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never calk retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before his judgment seat; Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer him; be jubilant, my feet; Our God i marching on. The con dition of the world was then vastly different than now. The earth's surfaoe had been parceled out as v: heritage among a lot of successful warrior and diplomat. The people a mere incident to the soil were ruled by the king by a right, which they called devine, to dispute which was treason punishable with death. What education the common people got was based on the idea that man' first duty wa to render without question obedience to their sovereigns. The liter ature of the age ignored the rights of man to a voice in the government that de manded his obedience; the colleges and great universities taught the doctrine of man's insignificance and incompetency. It was in the backwoods of North America the first successful revolt was raised against the devine rights of king and this wat led to success by a "buck' skin colonel" whose ancestors "for three quarters of century had dwelt In back woods of America. The world today honors that backwoods colonel and nation of 64,000.000 free people defy all history to produce a grander character than George Washington.
