Pollock W. W. OIL HOT A Sl!((ESS AI YAKIMA Oiled streets are not a huge success in this latituJs if this street can be taken as a sample, says the Yakima Republic. It is about as muddy as any other street in the city, but the mud is not so deep. ' It is .here, however, . together with a little mixture of the oily fluid that comes out of the earth. . ; This is the kind of weather that will test such a street In the center of the 1 1 r ujhfarj the rrtud is " very soft and pliable, while on each side where a large amount of sand was thrown as a cover ing and where travel has been light the surface of the street is comparatively smooth and hard. ., ' . This improvement cost the property owners on each side of second street $50 per lot. It hid a beneficial effect during the summer months. The dust was held down, but this convenience was offset by the mcovenienoe ai uia uiuwu, sticky accumulations of soil that adhered to almost everything except the road, tnat came in contact with,, particulary the nouse wife's best rugs and carpets.- CONTINUE THE GOOD WORK ' The efforts of ths Navy Department to rid the Naval Academy of ruffianism are evidently not to be relaxed until the work of purification is completed. The court- martial is now engaged in trying the ninth offender against the Academy rule', and the laws, and the .fact that the offic ers composing the court have taken houses at Annapolis for the winter, is an evidence that they still feel there; is much work before them. That it will be thorough there need be no fear, and the punish ments on conviction should be exemplary, and doubtless will be.' SPECIAL MEETINGS Rev. Gibson of the Baptistchurch de livered a splendid sermon last evening at the'Methodist church. Tonight Rev. Hays of the Presbyterian church will occupy the pulpit, and tomorrow evening Rev. King of Central church will preach, Rev. Mower, of the Methodist church was not not able to be present last evening but is eported to be better this morning. ouse Pollock Employed- NHIM loot VI. U Causey has secured the rights for the counties of Baker, Wallowa, Uma tilla and Union for the sale of the Oregon Machine Graining Company s' device for manufacturing a modern sub stitute for hardwood. Mr. Causey has samples of the differ ent grainings in his office which gives every evidence of making it possible to furnish elegant homes at a slight expense over the cost of ordinary finish. Even stained or second class lumber can be utilized for this purpose just as well .as the first grades, Mr. Causey has sam ples of oak. mahogany and other grains at his office which show what can be accom plished with the soft woods of this section of the state. The lumber is run through the machine quite like a printing press and comes out grained as ddsired. . The macnines are not expensive and it certainly iooks HKe it will become in ue-1 mand as builders investigate how beauti ful the interior of the house can be fin ished with our own lumber at so small an expense. In reference to the various hardwoods the princ.pal and strong points of advant age claimed are: ' ' ' ' First Being able to reproduce the ex act and identical grains of the cnoicest hardwoods true to nature. "Second. Not only do we obtain the effects of the natural color, but in various other shades as well in far more extens- ve variety than those that are obtainable with the hardwoods by the use of stains applied by a skilled mechanic." Third. The principal and essential point to command the extensive use for all work Where expense is a consideration. and at the same time a desire existing to obtain the artistic hardood effects is the comparative low cost. We are r enabled to do this work in such perfect - manner that it requires an expert to detect the difference, and fulfills the requirements of all high class work, ' ."We claim on a safe basis the compar ative cost to be as follows, based upon' present market, prices, oak being the cheapest (therefore the most extensive- hardwood used) costs above the softwood machine grained, exceeding one hundred per cent." . CITY CANDIDATES Petitions to have their names placed upon the city ticket have been filed before the reoordsr by L. Rayburn and I. W. Faulk for the office of marshal, and I. R Snook tor recorder. This is the first step of the approaching election which takes place on March 12. "BOX CAR CASEY" Late yesterday afternoon a man who is known all over the s&te as "Box Car Casey" was arrested for the theft of an ax, the property of Dr. Charlton, whic 1 he dapoied of to a second hand ttore. He was taken-before Justice Hough and wai sentenced to 60 days in the county jail. Casey is not his true name but the on under which he was mustered into the army during the Philippine war. Boise Capital News. ' ALONG THE RIGHT WAY In considering the rationality of Oste opathic treatment, too. it should be re membered that nerves control the circu lation of the blood, and that except where there is some direct obstruction of the vessels themselves, the only way to correct abnormal blood circulation to any part of the body is through nerves. '. So i that it becomes apparent that toubtes of the circulatory system, as well as those which might more definitely be c assed as nervous diseases, are most likely to come from the very causes which the Osteopath always looks for. It becomes evident, too. that the range of ci e sjs amandible to Osteopathic treatment is a very wide one that it, in fact, embraces practically all of the dis eases to which flesh is heir and in which cure is possible. 0 PER CENT Off-THIS MEK ONLY In order to reduce our stock, of combs and hair brushes and make it an object for you to buy now we offer all hair brushes and combs 23 percent off. which means 20 per cent from prices already lowest.
