from Portland where he has been re
ceiving treatment for an eye trouble. He
returns greatly improved and ready to
resume practice.
Mrs. O. C. Wright came in this mornino
from Spokane where she has been Vjsit-
ng Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Robbins and is
here visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Wright.
She will return to her home in Sumpter
n a few days.
The ladies of the Catholic church will
ive a social this evenincr at the home of
Mrs. L. E. Ferguson on O. Street between
Sth and 6th Streets. All are cordially
invited. The proceeds of the social will
be devoted to the improvement of the
Catholic cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. J. . W. Kennedy . and
daughter Miss Elsie, will leave this even
ing for Walla Walla and Lewiston - on a
tour of inspection in the hopes that the
change will improve Mrs. Kennedy's
health. They may decide to spend the
winter in Portland. Mr. Kennedy will
probably return after locating the family.

Grande visitor this afternoon. He was
accompanied over by Mrs. Eugene Selder,
who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. M.
Selder the past ten days.
Geo. B. Stoddard. E. Z. Carbine and N.
Schofield are on their way to Mexico to
look over a large tract of land, with a
view of purchasing. David Eccles is
expected to join them in a few days.
WAS UNSUCCESSFUL
Lon Winn, a logger, working at Camp
No. 3. attempted to commit suicide last
evening. He had been drinking and the
world having taken on a dark blue tint
he borrowed a razor and proceeded to let
out the blood which ' keeps the tissue
alive. He cut a two inch gash over his
juglar and severed a vein or two Tin each
wrist but though he bled to a consider
able extent he will live. He was brought
down last night and his wounds were
dressed by Drs. Bacon & Hall, and this
morning is considered out of danger
The attempt at self distruction took place
at Camp No. 3 which is situated on the
Grande Ronde River about eighteen miles
from this city.
COUNTY JUDGE ARRESTED

Brighton. Colo. Jan. 24. County Judge
A. H. Guthiel was arrested this morning
after a fierce fight with the sheriff and
two deputies, and placed in jail. He was
charged with assessing excessive fees in
a recent contempt case against two town
trustees.

The annual meeting of the stockholders
of the Farmers and Traders National
Bank was held yesterday, and the former ,
officers were all re-elected: Joseph Palm
er, president; J. W. Scriber, cashier; G. E.
McCully and- T. J. Scroggin, assistant
cashiers.
