Collar your dog. Tha city recorder has just racaivad a new invoice of tag which he ia aonous to dispose of at the regular market price These tags also act aa a kind of Gfa insurance policy, m other word your dog ha a Jonger lease on Bfa in case the pound master doe hi duty. By noting the result of other counties through our exchanges, w arc of the opinion that voter ara registering in larger number elsewhere than in this county However few returns from the outside precinct have been received at the clerk' office and when they begin to srrive it may be found that more interest being taken than ia manifested at pre sent. It is the duty of every voter to register and participate in the primaries. i ara all interested in the matter of the selection of our public servants and tha primaries ia tha place to maka these election. If you do not register you have no legitimate ground to enter a com plaint, if the best results ara not obtained, from the very fact that you did not do our duty as a citizen. You shirked your responsibility and should pay the penalty and should do it gracefully and not Think of it, tha Willamette valley is realizing the advantages of irrigation and several irrigation projects are receiving lttention. That section of the state, like the Grand Ronde valley, only needs one or possibly two irrigation during the aa- tremely dry seasons to raise any kind of crops. To illustrate, if the Sandridge land iood be irrigated once, or twice at the moat, during the months of August or September, think of the different kind of -top that could be grown at an immense profit. Think of the thousands of 'acres f land that would produce from fifteen to twenty ton of beet if one or two water ing were possible. Three crop of alfalfa could ba grown every year. Such land anywhere in thia state is in demand and buyers are willing to pay $100 per acre for it We grow to many kinds of crops without irrigation that wa possibly over look the advantages. The waste water of our river and creek will be stored and when this is brought about, tha big farms will ba divided and sub-divided and on each sub-division there wilt be home. All our lines of clothing, hats and, haberdashery will be . ' CUT TO THE QUICK Among Union county's many resources it may ba that mining wiD not be among tha least. Tha camp up Grande Ronde river i certainly promising. At any rate the concentrating mill will maka it possible for many properties to become thoroughly developed and. if there ia one paying mine there, there ar dozens and capital will go after them. . It ia evident that it ia only a question of a very short time until tha O. R. & N. company will extend the Elgin branch down the Grande Ronde river to Lewiston. which means a water grade from Grande Ronde valley to Astoria, it is possible that the company had this in view when considering the enlargement of their shops in this city. The thirty or mora saw mills of this county ar all in a prosperous condition. They practically have all of their output contracted for and it is only a question aa to how much they can cut and with tha snow in the mountains every mill will have no trouble in securing all the logs they can manufacture into lumber. There is an army of men in the nountains in the logging camps. , ' The Good Old Standby. Nothing like a nice cut of juicy corned beef with cabbage or saeur-kraut once in a while!
