ex-governor of Colorado and his adjutant,
Sherman Bell they have been threatened
with the tame fate that overtook ex-Governor
Steunenberg. of Idaho, who was

he entered his gate Saturday night Both
claim to have direct knowledge that thev
have been marked for death by certain
miners who object to their method of law
mforcement and they declare that oaths
have been taken to put them out of th
way. Mr. Peabody was seen in his bank
at Canyon City today and s aid: .
I have no doubt Steunenberir was
killed by miners and that I am marked
for the same fat I hive no doubt,
but I shall protect myself."

Washington. Jan. 4. Beyond doubt the
Alaska-Yukon Exposition in Seattle in
1907 will mark the beginning of a new
era in affairs Alaskan." That's what
Consul Ravndal, of Dawson, Yukon, says
officially to the department of commerce
and labor of t'.e exposition. He was re
porting on the wonderful output of gold in
Alaska durina the vear beirinninir October
1 5, 1 904. and ending October 1 5, 1 905,
and the new en he speaks of is one in
which he expects to see Alaska surpass
Colorado and even California in gold pro
duction.
Despite early frosts which cut short
the crop, the value of the output for the
past year is estimated by the consul at
$14,000,000. Tne season previous It
was about 59.003,000 and the season
before that only $5,000,000.
This is the way he figures out that
production. Down in the southeastern
"panhandle" and the Alexander ' Archi
pelago, the output is placed at a million
and a half. Most of this came from the
famous Tread welt quartz plants on Doug
las Island.
Frosts held the Seward peninsula onx

have been booming as nowhere else in
the Tanana Valley, where $6,500,000
was washed out. Fairbanks, the surprise
