AMUSEMENTS 'A Jolly Amer can Tramp.'' a comedy drama by the author of Sol Smith Russell's successes, "Peaceful Valley" and ''A Poor Relation," will be the bill at Steward's opera house on Friday December I, Its theme relates the efforts of one of the world's unfortunates, who, while shunned by society yet fulfills the teachings of the good by aiding the oppressed and perse cuted. Love, passion, despair, bitterness. desire for revenge and the self torments of the soul of the villian who causes all the trouble, will be shown with an inten sity and naturalness by the thoroughly competent cast that will enact its various roles. Among the most noted of its play ers are the names of Clark Ross, Berlins Farnsworth, William Lee, Vera Wilson. Cora Lee Jefferson, Virginia Meliville Wm. S. Ely and others. THANKSGIVING BALL The Foresters Annual Ball last n'ght, as was expected, was a grand succes both socially and financially. There was not a single factor to mar the delights of evening. The committee on arrange' ments and entertainments is to .compli mented open the success of the work and the Foresters in general are to be con' gratulated. . MCEWEN WORKS WONDERS ' w . - ...:m nu a ghts engagement at Stewart's Opera house beginning Monday, December 4th. has the happy faculty of getting in touch with his audience in less than a minute after the curtain goes up, Ha begins his work generally with a simple trick or two in palming which he explains. From this he takes his audience swiftly into the realms of the mysterious and bewildering. He palms live birds, making them appear and vanish like spirits of the air,, and then to show how quick and how skillful the human hand may become, ha, with his left hand juggles four . billard balls, showing them to you held between each of his fingers. These he makes appear and will, scarcely moving his hand and keeping his arm all the time sxtanded in plain eight As a coin and card mani pulator he stands without an equal, and this may also be said of him as a hypno tist In this art he has achieved a world' wide reputation, and only by seeing his work can one get an idea of It Trying to describe it is like trying to tall of the hilarity of a champagne supper when the wine has died. See him once and you will surelv see him again. Seats will be on Sals at Van Buren's Friday. Prices 10. 20. & 50 cents. A special matinee w. 1 be given Saturday Dec. 9th. The same prices will prevail for the matinee. SPECIAL REQUEST I have been unable to deliver tickets for our entertainment course to all subscrib ers.
