COMBINE FORCES What would prove to be vjlu. able acquisitions would be the purchase of a large rock crusher by the city of La Grande and a steam roller by Union county and interchange the work of both machines in the construc tion of good roads throughout tbe counly and in the city of La Grande, UmatilU county has adopted this plan to improve her stret8 and highways and although no work has been done it is looked for to be a great i success.: , ' In building road in the country district it is not at all likely that all crushed rock roads eould be built but there are many instances where they must exist to be passable. The Booth lane for insiance is a sample v of poor winter road. With a layer of crushed rock rolled with a heavy roller farm ers could haul twice the amounts they now haul over that s'retch in wirier. The city streets for example. need not all be crusbel rock either. Where proper eradine has been done to round them up so the water ruus off nronerlv and after being rolled to a com pact surface they are found to be much superior to the flit uu- drained streets that exist in every community. Only a concerted effort ou both the part of the city and county administrations can ever accomplish anything in road or street building. Good roads and good Btreets . impress 'a new comer more thun any monument or ornament that can be shown. With a big wheut crop, a biz hay crop, a big beet crop, a biff demand for the product of our thirty saw mills nud normal conditions of the fruit and stock industries, Union county resi dents need .not worry with re ference lo the amount of circu lating medium this full. We will have plenty of money. Slate Senator Geo.C Brownell is following his usual custom and has iust wadb a snrli whereby be announced himself as a candidate for replArtinn Heretofore he has been very successful and as his custom has been aloug the theory of the primary law he may continue to be a member of the upper house. G. E. FOWLER Truck and Transfer Wood and Coal . Phone 1611 All order jjiven prompt attention. The candidates for congress in the first district are working like beavers. It promises to be it long and strenuously contested campaign. . Mayor Lane and the Porilaud city council promise to give the general public more or less op portunity for discussion as it seenn they ' are predistined to clash. SCROFULA FROM PARENT TO CHILD The laws of heredity are invariable nnd the diseased bluud of parents is handed down to children in the form ol Scrofula, l.eing thus deeply rooted nothing can reach the disease but a con stitutional remedy. The very foundation of the blood is diseased, and until it it purified nud made strong, those who arc forn with a scrofulous tendency cannot have the blessing of robust health.
