IDAHO ON GOOD ROADS
The Governor of Idaho learn

Col.'W II Moore, president of
the National Good Road ' Asso
ciation and other in embers
thereof, the Hon. Martin' Dodge,
Director of the United States
office of Pablio Roads Inquiries;

reputation, would pass through
Idaho about Jane 8 insU put
himself in communication with
them. The Governor oelicit
ed the attention, of these coun
try roads inaW,snd assuring
them that the people of Idaho
are heartily in sympathy with
the good road movement
these distinguished, men cheer
fully acceded to his request, and
agreed to halt and bold a two
days Good Road Convention at
Boise City on June 9ih and 10.
On May 29 the Governor is
sued a proclamation requesting
the county commissioners in
each county to appoint three
deligates to attend the 'conven
tion at Boise City, and the
mayors cf all towns and cities
also to apoint three deligates
each to that convention.
The parties named in the
first paragraph will pass through
Idahoenroute to Portland Ore
gon whether they go to attend
the fifth Annual National Good
Roads Convention, which will
be held on Jane 22-23-24,
which will be attended by dele
gates from all parts oi the US
The Convention at Boise City
will select twenty , delegates to
the National Convention at
Portland, there in additiou to
the delegates at large already
appointed by the Governor will
give Idaho a membership of
something over thirty in the
National Convention at Portland
Our neighbor, Idaho seems
to be taking a lively interest in
road making. List week the
state road commission appro
priated 7925,000 to make two
roads which will cost $00,000,
the people interested iu these
roads having - pledged the re
maining $35,000.
. The snap which Idaho evin
ces in getting out of the old ruts
in road making, and other
matters explains, why Idaho is
developing so rapidly as to sur
prise person, who in the long
ago rode over that region and
gladly left it a a land that seem
ed eternally devoted to sage
brueh, coyotes, desolate' moun
tains and thirsty plains. Idaho
is a much younger stale ,thsn
Oregon, from which it was
carved, with 10,000 Jess square
miles of land sorfaoe and as the
pioneers saw it not one-tenth
of the productive land in Oregon
and not . much if any ; betteij

Oregon to wake up.
'Repu'able newspapers do not
like to say harsh things of any
one. It is a mistaken idea that
the papers preter viiiiacaiiou iu
their news columns to commen
datory articles. Some news
papers may, but they aie few
