Score Nine to a Goose Et&, is Decision J6f 4 j 5 Mr.' "Ump " i Aocordlng to the Pendleton ' paper there leemi to be little eoreneei re. fmrdiag the recent defeat of the . Pend leton ball team by the ' La Grande boya. ,The Eaet Oregonlao weme to be laboring under the impretaion that the fault reata altogether wllh the! La Grande team, bot thoee who were on the groonde and know aomethlng cit the real oondltioni (ally realize tbat the La Grande bore were in the clear, and performod their part bt the agree- nienl .. According to the written agree ment made by the manager! of the two teams, the game was to be called promptly at twe o'clock In order that the foil pine innings could be played In time to allow the La Grande team to remove their ball euitgj , and , get npper before the eaat bound .. train should arrive. The La Grande im was on the grounds ready lor business at toe appointed; hour, but the P end leton boys did, not make their appear ance anil) nearly three o'clock as it was evident that the game could not be finished In time to allow the La Grande boys to ileaaup after the game and come home like gentlemen. they informed ' the manager of the Pendleton team that they would play until four odook and then quit. This was agreed to, and the game prooeed ed. At the end of the seventh Inning the time limit baving'arrlved, the La Grande boys quit. At tbat time the cor stood ten to six In favor of La Grande. ' It Is fortunate tbat the game did oome to conclusion at this early date or a defeat would have been Still greater for the home players. Had the Pendleton manager got his men on the ground at t .e time agreed up on there would have been no trouble. ' This trouble Js simply a repetition of tne mis up whicn oooured last year. The Pendleton boys for ' some J reason seem to be "jast behind the' time" when it comes to getting to work Ion the ball grounds, and therefore leave themselves liable to a abort . circuit. Regarding the statement that . tbn La Grande boye require an nnrearonubte time to "primp" for the homecoming, all we care to aay is that . when our boys leave town they do so like gentlemen, and never fail to re i urn - in as good a coudition. It Is customary lor La Grande teams to remove the evidenoe of the dust and grime of the game after a contest and there is no reaBon why they should change their mode of prooeedure when visiting out side points, when ball teams visit La Grande they are accorded the liberty aud accomadatious of the Commercial Club where there is plenty of hot and cold water a sufficient number of towels.. This is more than was offered them by the Pendleton team . A few more years of constant war fare will teaoh the Pendleton managers tbat an agreement, is nn agreement, and thstrag chewing and wtnd jamming does not constitute ball playing, When the Pendleton team oomea to La Grande they will be given an exhibit ion of what real gentlemanly ball play ing can be.
