Holy Thursday In The Catholic Church , On Thursday, April 20th. at 8 p m, an Instruction will be given la the Catbollo Church on the doctrine of the Real Presence ot Christ la tba Holy Eaoharlat. This doctrine is tba foundation on which the whole aperstructare ' of Catholio teaching rests "It it sags in tba least everything built thereon tambtes into rain." For reasons which need not be bare explained, most books ot Catholic theo logy are printed in the Latin language. Bat there la one book written in En gllsh on tba "Real Presence" which is a classlo on that eubject. Its aathor was Cardinal Wiseman, since the Re formation the first Catholics Arohbiibop of Westminister In London. Ha died about a generation ago. For many years Wiseman was Rector of the English Collage in Roma where native born British atadents are train ad for the priesthood In Great Britain. Ha waa an Oriental scholar with a world reputation for depth and aocur acy of kuowledga in all questions be longing to tba languages and litera tures of the East,' that la fc aay of Syria, Arabia, Persia and Hindoostan. Christ did not think or speak In Hebrew bat in 8yro Cbaldalo which hardly bears, to the language of the Old Testament -vriters, any eloser like nees than modi rn English abows toward the speech of Goetbs and of Schiller. Wiseman made this 8yro-Cbaldalo tongae and its kindred dialects his special study and ha waa often compli mented by the very enemies ot Christ ianity for his profound and exact scholarship in these matters. His book on the 'Real Presence" contains eight lecture which were first delivered to the students of tba En glish College already mentioned and published in London many years later. They show muoh learning and give many interesting details, bat the main argument may be oondensed into the aiza of an ordinary sermon losing little, either, In force or In clearneHS by that process. . This is the Instruction which will be given in the Catholio Church on the date mentioned before. Una may not agree with Wiseman's reasoning but at the least It is worth hearing and worth weighing. He was, and today ia. dear the beaits, not only ot English Catholics, but ot English Protestants as well . For Wiseman wa the brother and the friend of tba whole Eugllsh population and in bis bigb place neither toadied to th riob nor made himself the tool or the dupe ot a clique. The book of which this notliut la written made a deep Impression on all thinking minds in England when it waa first published. It bad much to do with the famous Oxford or Tracta ian movement which brought Newman Manning, b aher and many other soboN rly Englishmen from the Anglican Communion into that of the Catholic Church. . All earnest people of every Churoh and of no religious belief whatever are respectfully invited to hear this cele brated yet sensible argument of Cardi nal Wiseman In favor, of the central and basic teaching of the Roman Cath olic Church. Catholics and Frotestants alike have the sad confession to make that in past times they hated one another for Christ's sak3. W llva in a better day and we see ia a clearer lien that all men of good will upon this f.rth are the brothers and the frleaJd of our 8avior and oar King.
