As the town barber for over 54 years, Gary had many friends in Silverton, where he was born and raised. He was a dedicated Catholic, member of the Elks Lodge and the “Fly Wheels” group of Sil- verton. Gary was the most loving, dedi- cated father and husband a family could ask for. He will be missed and forever in our hearts. Gary is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Joyce; children Jan (Mike) Long and Bill (Maria) Wolfard; grand- children Kristi (Craig) Walter, Ryan (Melissa) Gengler, Katie Gengler, Brad Gengler, Garrett (Kristina) Wolfard and Blake Wolfard; and four great-grand- children. A rosary service was held July 26 and funeral on July 27, both at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. and Upper Hood River Valley. Cullen said temper- atures may be lowered with the help of marine air Friday, and continue the transition into lower tem- peratures into the 90s or 80s going into the week- end. Temperatures are, however, expected to re- main warm even during the nighttime. Highs in Salem should reach around 106 degrees dur- ing the day and lows will only drop down to the low- er 70s at night. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity is a risk for peo- ple without access to air conditioning. Cullen said individuals should stay safe by stay- ing hydrated with water, avoiding excessive out- door activity and staying out of the sun over the course of the three-day heat watch. Cullen said people without access to air con- ditioning can plan a trip to a shopping mall or a local library to escape during the at the hottest points of the day. Occasionally meteo- rologists can forecast 10 days in advance, Neuman said, but in most cases, we won’t have a good idea of the weather expected until 5 to 7 days before the date in question.
