Angel; and many loving aunts, un- cles, and cousins. Anndrea was preceded in death by her grandfather, Alex Maur- er of Mt. Angel, and grandparents George and Mildred Wiesner of Silver- ton. Anndrea was taken away too early, but will be with God and his angels watching over us. Funeral liturgy was held May 2 at St. Mary Catholic Church of Mt. Angel, with recitation of the rosary held prior. Inter- ment was at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Silverton. Arrangements with Unger Funeral Chapel of Silverton. Any donations re- ceived will go towards the children’s education care of Unger Funeral Chapel. Anndrea Marie (Wiesner) Moffett July 30, 1981 — April 24, 2017 Anndrea Marie (Wies- ner) Moffett left us on Monday, April 24, in Sa- lem after a short illness. Anndrea was born July 30, 1981, in Silverton to Nor- man and Debbie Wiesner. She grew up in Silverton, graduating from Silverton High School in 1999. She received her bachelor’s de- gree from Oregon State University in 2003. Eight years ago, she married Ty Moffett of Junction City, and was blessed with two beautiful children, Col- ton and Caitlin. Anndrea was a Project Controller at OBEC Consulting Engi- neers of Salem. Anndrea was a wonderful daughter, loving wife and adoring mother. Her children, Colton and Caitlin meant the world to her. She was also a bright and determined young woman that excelled at planning, organizing and taking charge of events. Anndrea enjoyed trav- eling, sewing, crafts, family campouts and beach trips. Another of her plea- sures was attending Oregon State foot- ball and baseball games with Ty, cheer- ing on their beloved Beavs. Anndrea is survived by her husband Ty Moffett; their son Colton and daugh- ter Caitlin of Salem; her parents Norman and Debbie Wiesner of Silverton; her Carl Alfred Reed, Sr. Jan. 5, 1924 — April 20, 2017 Carl Alfred Reed, Sr., a long-time resident of Sil- verton, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thurs- day, April 20, in his home of three and a half years at Mount Angel Towers. He was 93. Carl was born on the family homestead in Yu- ma County, Colorado, son of Earl and Anna (Steinke) Reed. He was the sixth of eight children. He spent much of his youth on the family farm in Perkins County, Nebraska, before set- tling with his family in the North Howell area of Marion County in 1937. After graduating from Stayton High School in 1942, Carl joined the Army Air Corps as a 1st Lt. and pilot of B-25 air- craft, a member of the Air Apaches, 345th Bomb Group. He served with dis- tinction in the Pacific Theater of World War II, participating in many successful bombing missions. On one such mission over what is now Taiwan, Carl’s aircraft was damaged by heavy artillery and was forced to ditch in the South China Sea. Despite injury, he escaped the wreckage with all but one of his crew, who were lat- er rescued by a U.S. Navy submarine. He was returned to his base and resumed flying until the end of the war. While on leave from the Army Air Corps, before deploying overseas, Carl met Ann Lynch at the Palace Theater in Silverton, and their romance blossomed while writing letters back and forth. Carl even named his plane “Annie.” Upon honorable discharge from his military service in 1946, Carl proposed to Ann at the Oregon State Fair and they were mar- ried on Nov. 8, 1946, settling in Silverton. They raised four children, one boy and three girls. He spent 36 years as a master me- chanic for the Oregon State Highway Di- vision while working hard to maintain their family farm, retiring in 1983. Carl was an avid bowler and long-time bowl- ing league participant at Silver Creek Lanes. He was dedicated to his annual fall elk hunting trips with his friends, watching his grandchildren in their many activities, cheering on Silverton High athletics, and traveling with Ann. He was devoted to his family until the end, enjoying their many gatherings throughout the years. Carl is survived by his three daugh- ters: Linda (Herb) Romey of Amity, Cin- dy (Larry) Key of Covington, Washing- ton, and Cheryl (Rick) Rue of Salem; daughter-in-law Cindy Reed of Portland; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, and son, Carl, Jr. Visitation was held Friday, April 28, 2017, at Unger Funeral Chapel in Silver- ton. A funeral was held Saturday, April 29, at St. Edward’s Episcopal Church in Silverton, and was followed by a recep- tion in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, monetary memorials may be made to Sil- verton High School Athletics. GeerCrest Farm gets grant to expand programs ANNETTE UTZ “By learning about animal SPECIAL TO THE STAYTON MAIL GeerCrest Farm & Historical Society recently received a $6,000 grant from the Willamette University Atkinson Graduate School of Management (AGSM) to further develop its farm-life educational programming. GeerCrest Farm is a historic home- stead established in 1847 between Silver- ton and Stayton. Since 2007, the farm has offered farm life experience programs to groups and individuals to learn about growing, pre- serving and sharing food; the care of ani- mals; land-based community; and land stewardship. The organization will use the grant funds to expand programs that provide leadership opportunities for local mid- dle and high school students in support of all currently offered programs. A new classroom will be created for traditional craft and skill instruction in wool work- ing, basket weaving, the making of herb- al medicines, and more. “By learning about animal and land care and the use of renewable local re- sources produced from the land, stu- dents also learn vital self-reliance skills that connect them to our collective hu- man history as well as that of local pio- neers,” said GeerCrest Farm & Histori- cal Society Director Cayla Catino. AGSM graduate students adminis- tered the first-year grant program as part of their own educational project. The grant program aims to impact local communities in the areas of education, and land care and the use of renewable local resources produced from the land, students also learn vital self-reliance skills.” CAYLA CATINO GEERCREST FARM & HISTORICAL SOCIETY DIRECTOR arts and culture and green technology.
