APPEAL TRIBUNE Decem- ber 22, 1932 — June 7, 2016 Howard Vincent Wurdinger Sr., born in Olds, Alberta, Canada, to Lawrence and Cecilia Wurdinger. His family moved to Mt. An- gel in 1940 where he at- tended schools in Mt. An- gel and Woodburn. He was drafted into the Army in 1954, serving two years in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the service in 1956 he married the love of his life, Mary Schemmel. They raised their family on a farm in Woodburn. Howard owned and oper- ated a barber shop in St. Paul from 1960 to 1969. From there he started Howards Barber Shop in Canby, cutting hair until 1979. Then he started his hog operation and farmed until his retirement in 3B Gallon House Bridge photo contest JUSTIN MUCH STAYTON MAIL Wanted: photos of the Gallon House Bridge. Marion County Public Works announced its “Gallon House Bridge Photo Contest,” in which it seeks photos of the cov- ered bridge taken no ear- lier than June 2015 and submitted no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2016. The 17-month win- dow is established to elic- it photos from all seasons. Each contestant may submit up to two photos from each season: spring summer fall winter. Pho- tos must be digital, emailed, and they will be judged on overall quality, creativity and how well the photograph portrays the Gallon House Bridge through the seasons. Not being one to sit still, he and Mary moved to Silverton where he re- stored 15 Gibson tractors. He loved to hunt and al- ways enjoyed a good hunt- ing story. With a sparkle in his eye and a wicked sense of humor, he had an affin- ity for practical jokes. It didn’t take long for laugh- ter to break out after he entered a room. Never was there a bet- ter Dad! He held a special place in his heart for ev- ery one of his 28 grand- kids and 9 great-grand- kids. He is survived by his loving wife Mary; sons Anthony(Karen) of Mt. Angel, Walter of Silver- ton, Jeffery (Marlene) of Gervais, Howard Jr.,(Glo- ria) of Scotts Mills, and Sidney (Angela) of Scotts Mills; daughters Lucinda (Tim) Wurdinger-Kelly of Woodburn, Melinda (Ed) Kintz of Silverton, Gretchen (Steve) Gaydos of Naselle, Washington, Amy (Cam) Ferschweiler of Silverton, and Heidi (Mike) Williams of Canby; brother Lawrence (Judy) Wurdinger of Coquille and sister, Jean Lulay of Salem. Preceded in death by his parents; grandson Mathew Wurdinger, brother Ralph Wurdinger, sisters Monica Steffen, Edna GrosJacques, Shire- ly Griener and Marge Du- man.
