WEDNESDAY, MAY 18, 2016 APPEAL TRIBUNE ● 3B OBITUARIES Jack Warren Coskey Oct. 8, 1918 — April 30, 2016 Jack Warren Coskey, 97, of Corvallis and for- mer resident of Silverton, Oregon and Hillsboro, Oregon and Renton and Centralia, Washington, died April 30, 2016 in Cor- vallis. He was born on Oc- tober 8, 1918 in Seattle, Washington to Arthur and Laura Mildred Coskey, the elder of two children. He married Kathryn May Priest on August 1, 1947, in Tacoma, Washington, and they were blessed with four children. A World War II army captain, Jack served with the 1288th Engineer Com- bat Battalion. In Germa- ny, his battalion cleared a personnel-mine field and constructed a floating Bailey bridge across the Rhine River. The bridge helped move allied forces into central Germany for the final allied ground as- sault. Jack was a graduate forester and land survey- or from the University of Washington and remained a proud Husky fan. His professional ca- reer spanned over 40 years, including working at a shake mill, forester for the Milwaukee Land Company, licensed land surveyor, timber tax economist for the Indus- trial Forestry Associa- tion, and forestry and sur- veying instructor at Che- meketa Community Col- lege. An avid outdoorsman, Jack enjoyed surveying Washington and Oregon forests, traveling, hunt- ing, target shooting, land- scaping, gardening, and raising sheep. He was an avid reader of history, natural sciences, and travel. His wife, Kath- ryn Coskey, parents, brother, and granddaugh- ter, preceded him in death. Private burial for Jack Warren Coskey will be at Willamette National Cem- etery on May 12, 2016 at 10:30 am in Portland, Ore- gon. McHenry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mildred (Mickey) Carolyn Volker February 15, 1915 — May 5, 2016 Mildred (Mickey) Carolyn Volker died Thursday, May 5, 2016 in Mt. Angel, Oregon. She was 101 years old. Mildred Carolyn Ket- ter was born February 15, 1915 in Kelly, Kansas to John and Clara Ketter. Mildred had one sister, Frances, and one brother, Celestine. The family soon moved to Frankfort, Kansas so John could rent and work on various farms. Mildred lived in Frankfort until she fin- ished 8th grade. She did not want to attend high school, but her older sis- ter, Frances, believed she should go. While Mil- dred was in Wichita, the family moved to St. Fran- cis, Kansas. Mildred joined them there and fin- ished high school in St. Francis. Mildred’s brother, Ce- lestine, often attended dances with his friend, Or- ville Volker. One day, Ce- lestine and Orville went with a horse trailer to pick up Mildred from a friend’s house. On the way back, Mildred held a song book for Orville while he played his guitar, and they soon started seeing each other. Orville traveled to Ore- gon to find work and even- tually found a job at a saw mill in Scotts Mills. He worked for a year and then traveled back to Kan- sas for Mildred. Orville and Mildred were mar- ried June 14, 1937 in St. Francis, and then traveled to Oregon. Orville and Mildred lived for five years in Scotts Mills be- fore moving to Silverton, Oregon. In Silverton, Mildred worked at home raising their three children, Al- len, Linda, and Dennis. She spent her time cook- ing and baking (she was well-known for her amaz- ing pies), and entertaining friends in their large back yard. Mildred especially loved having family re- unions. Later, Mildred worked as a clerk at Goodwill in Silverton until she re- tired. She was also very in- volved with St. Paul Catholic Church. Mildred enjoyed playing card games and working in her garden, spent time cro- cheting afghans for all her loved ones, and loved spending time with fam- ily. She was known to al- ways have beautiful flow- ers growing in her yard and even mowed her own lawn while in her 90s. Above all, Mildred will most be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She is survived by her three children: Allen Volker (wife Karen), Lin- da Brochard (husband Harry), and Dennis Volk- er; her eight grandchil- dren: Jon Brochard, Gina Brochard, Denise Bro- chard, Eric Volker, Heidi Tavares, Scott Volker, Crystal Nekvapil, and Ja- son Volker; and her 10 great grandchildren. Aus- tin, Carter, Addison, Ali- via, Kai, Hayden, Eliza- beth, Wyatt, Claire, and Audrey. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara, her sib- lings, Frances and Celes- tine, and her husband, Or- ville. A viewing was held at Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton on Friday, May 13 from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Sat- urday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Silverton, followed by a grave site service at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery. Reception followed at Mt. Angel Towers at 3:30. Margaret Kathleen Olson November 10, 1924 — May 9, 2016 Margaret Kathleen was born to Lela and James Mulkey in Silver- ton. She attended Silver- ton schools graduating from high school in 1942. Kate married Arlo Olson from Woodburn 71 years ago. He and their three sons, James, David and John survive her. She died unexpect- edly in her sleep Sunday night after a great Mothers Day with her husband, sons, daugh- ters-in-law and grand kids. Kate was a loving wife, mother, grand mother, aunt and friend to hundreds. She will be missed by all. Martin Ernst Lundi October 25, 1934 — May 7, 2016 Family service to be held. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel. Joshua James Rich July 15, 1983 — May 7, 2016 Joshua James Rich, 32, A vibrant, loving and fiery soul was taken from us on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Joshua was killed in a motorcycle accident on his way home to his beloved family. Josh was born on July 15, 1983. He grew up in Woodburn and attended Woodburn High School. Josh pursued many avenues in his life, including becoming a Journeyman Plumber, having an array of out- door interests and explor- ing various places in the world with his friends and family. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and seeing the country on his rides. Truly the most signifi- cant piece of Josh’s life was his devotion to the love of his life and wife, Kristin, as well as to their two beautiful daughters, Madilynn, 10, and Kylie, 8. Josh’s personality was spirited, fervent and sin- cere. He attracted those around him with his com- pelling opinions on au- thority, allegiance to orig- inality and his full-bellied, contagious laugh. Many lives have been changed for the better by his short time on this Earth. Joshua will be remembered by his friends and family, particularly by his wife Kristin, and daughters Maddy and Kylie of Sil- verton, his parents, Carl and Denise Rich of Wood- burn, brother, Justin Rich of Portland and sister, Ma- riah Rich of Silverton. A celebration of Josh’s life will take place on Satur- day, May 21 at 2 p.m. at Sil- ver Creek Fellowship in Silverton. Ride on into the Heavens, Josh. Arrange- ments by Unger Funeral Chapel.
