County Official Paper List week thrre was a Home Industries Day celebrated in Ore gonthe object of which was to display the products of Oregon and stimulate an Interest in the manufacture and use cf Oregon made g.wda. In other words it was an effort on the part of man ufacturers to create such an in terest In home made goods as would result In their use by Ore gon people In preference to goods made In some other Btate. It was a good move. Oregon maJe goods should bo the choice of Oregon people, when price and quality are equal. What applies to the state In this wsy applies with equal or greater force to the particular city trade of each lo cality. The reason for the use of Oregon made goods by Oregon people when brought a little clos er home applies with the same force to the St. Helens goods by St. Helens people. U applies to the patronizing of St. Helens business houses by St. Helens people. Instead of the purchasing of Portland goods by St. Helens people, where quality and price are equal. The business firms of this city are carrying up to cate stock of merchandise in the several lines represented here, and at prices that are lower than the same goods sell for in Port land. There is no good teason for St. Helens people going out side tho city for anything neces sary in the ordinary course of living The onlv reason that can possibly beset forth for going away is that there may oe a larger assortment to choose from in Portland, but there is certain- i.. ...nrfnuini annuirh here to thn most particular buy ers. Instances of these facts are many and we cite a few or them here so that the attention of the St. Helens people who do shop ping In Portland may know that there are advantages in trndir g at home by reason of the quality and price as well as the support of home business firms which they are entitled to. If our readers in St.' Helens will take up this paper and glance f home business firms who are advertising their) wares then call on them und com pare prices, taking quality into consideration, they will find that money can be saved by trading right here. Take the case of the new fur niture store of Sherwood & Rors in this city; Jook up their prices and compare them witn me prices for the same goods in Portland and you will see where you save from 10 to 25 per cent on most anything you want in their line, chairs that are ad vertised In Portland papers ol different furnilure houses at a special sale, too tor Wi an1 $1.00 can be found at the store a A fit $3 to $3.25. The matter of going to the city for other thirgs such as jewelry books plumbing supplies etc. should not be done either, for in this city we have one of the most complete and up-to-date jewe'ry store and watch repair shops in the state, conducted by Von A. Gray who is an experienced work man and carries a fine stock of watches, clocks, diamonds and other jewelry, and his prices wiil compare favorably with any house of the kind and quality in the city.
