Veazie and son Zd have returned from a visit with friends and relatives in Tacoma. Wash. R. II. Craig and L. O. Klapp, Evangelists will begin a series of gosel meetings Aug. 30 at Mr. O. H. All members are requested to be present. J. E. Ramsey, who purchased the old Masonic Hall on Columbia Street has converted the ground floor into a machine shop where all kinds of repairs to gasoline engines and autos will be made. Mr. Mc Coy, a skilled mechanic will be in charge. Rev. Frank L. Bums will preach at the Houlton Free Methodist church next Sunday at 11 o'clock, at the Bachelor Flats schoolhouse at 3 oelock, at Yankton in, the even ing. Rev. Burns is a strong preach er and all will be benefited who hear him. The Schooner Bartjett will arrive in St. Helens about the 20th of Sep tember to load a cargo for the West Coast. Also the big steamer Ikalis will arrive during September to load a full cargo, about 2,000,000 feet for Australia. C. C. Wilson, formerly a saw mil man of Rainier, now a resident of Calgary, Canada, was a business visl itor in St. Helens yesterday. He has taken up a homestead in the Northern country and is well pleas- j ed with the outlook. j Max Lueddeman, a prominent real estate man from Portland, was looking after business matters, in St. Helens, Wednesday. The firm nf which Mr. Lueddeman is a inem lx;r has secured a large tract of land near Scappoose and are selling it out in small tracts on eaty terms. Next Monday is Labor Day and plans are being made for a big benefit ball game between the mar ried men and the single men of St. Helens. It is a foregone conclus ion that the Benedicts will win the game but the single boys will play anyway and a good game will be the result. Posters will announce the game later. A telephone call from Portland this morning from Dr. R. L. Jeffcott announces that he will be in St. Hol ers next week to resume his work in his dental offices. Dr. iir.d Mrs. Jeffcott have made an extended trip to Kurope, visiting England. France and other countries. They have been gone about thrive months. Mr. George B. Baxter, President of the First National Bank of Berk ley, Calif., was a St. Helens visit or early in the week. He was ac companied here by Mrs. Geo. W. McBride, of Portland, a large prop erty holder in Columbia County. The engagement of Mr. Baxter and Mrs. McBride has been announced in the Portland papers. There has been a question among fishermen as to whether it required a license to fish for Croppies and the Game department has Issued in structions to all wardens that a Croppy is a species of Bass and that it will require a license hereafter to fish for them.
